I remember seeing this for the first time and was so moved not only by the acting but the music that accompanied it as well. Several songs became huge hits... Never understood why the critics were so hard on this picture. It's a beautiful story about family... Can we at least agree that we need more movies like this in our lives right now...... Salute to you Mr.Dimond.

I'm am not jewish, but this scene and the way neil sings it is awesome. I have been in a Jewish church just once and I have to say that the higher ups really knew how to sing. I don't think our pastor at my church can carry a tune, but those I heard could really sing ....like really really good. A joke that i found funny is in highschool my girlfriend (Sarah) was jewish ( I would have married her, she is and always will be my first TRUE love. She past away when she was 25 due to blood clot) when ever one of her family asked if I was jewish I'd say ....well no ...but I did watch the jazz singer with Neil diamond. This made them smile or laugh. Sarahs grandmother said...such a nice boy,....to bad he is not jewish. Lol She did like me I was the only non jewish boy her grandma ever truly liked... cause grandma asked if we had a child would we raise it jewish or christian. I said BOTH. When he or she is 12 they can pick the one that they like.most and just go to one from that time on. but I would celebrate both Jewish and christian holidays equal. She liked that answer...

Well Jesus was Jewish, and under the New Covenant all being grafted in to the Abrahamic line, everyone is technically Jewish in any case, Welcome to the family. Essau voluntarily sold his birthright for a bowl of lentil 🍲 soup and this established a precedent that you can purchase the birthright through an act of loving kindness to others.

@@carminemurray6624The Christian's bibles are just very badly mistranslated and corrupted versions of the Torah/Tanach (The Real Word of G_d) with a lot changed including names, a whole lot added, and a whole lot taken out. Everything that G_d said not to do, Christianity did! Christianity lies! NO Hebrew/Jew was ever named Jesus, nor John, nor especially James. There is no letter J in the Hebrew alephbet nor does any of the Hebrew letters even make a J sound. Try actually reading the scriptures where G_d gave the Torah and the Commandments to Mosche and the Children/Nation of Israel on Mt. Sinai. G_d specifically told them in no uncertain terms that neither they nor any of their descendents all through time are to Never veer to the right nor left of the Torah/Tanach! Never!!! G_d also told them in no uncertain terms that neither they nor any of their descendents all through time are to Never accept anybody else's religion! Never!!! The One True Creator G_d also warned not to add to, nor subtract from the Torah/Tanach, but Christianity did it anyway. Christianity adopted way too many idolatrous and pagan beliefs contrary to what The One True Creator G_d actually said.

This scene demonstrates the heart wrenching consequences and events of Jewish assimilation. Please, If you are Jewish and find this music moving, go to a Jewish Orthodox synagogue this Yom kippur.
@iandlevy10 жыл бұрын
We live in a world and a country where assimilation is the norm. The truth is assimilation has been going on for centuries for Jews. For example- if you go by the biblical standards- religion is passed on the fathers side. Because of the horrors of what happened in Eastern Europe a few centuries ago- it switched to the mother's side. See Jews with blue eyes? If Jews are Semites, how is that possible since blue eyes are recessive and brown eyes are dominant genetically. The parents can guilt the crap out of their child- but the fact is the child is the one with the trump card- grandchildren- they cannot pass on THEIR grandchildren.
@janinelea62949 жыл бұрын
+Ian Levy there's nothing wrong with Assimilation. You can have that, and keep your own family traditions as well. Many diverse cultures have come together in the melting pot we call the United States, and many of us have managed to keep many of our old world traditions within the culture of America. What American isn't IRISH on St. Patty's day? But then we have our own holidays. Whether it's Yom Kippur, or Ramadan or Christmas or Kwanzaa. It's all a part of who and what we are.
@iandlevy8 жыл бұрын
Ephraim Lehrer Sorry dude- you are wrong. Judiasm switched to the mothers side after the horrors in Russia and eastern Europe. The fact is biblical Judiasm went thru the fathers side. As for Religion and or race- for Jews it is both and the same.

@@iandlevy Your argument is valid, but your historical reasoning lacking. Firstly, matrilineality is the norm among all (non Karaite) Jews, not only Ashkenazim who suffered under the Russian Empire. You are correct that patrilineality was the norm and was changed due to outside influences, but it was much earlier, under the Romans. As for blue/light eyes, they are not an exclusively European trait (in fact, they didn't even mutate/form first in Europe). They existed among ancient Levantines and exist among modern Levantines today. They do however exist in higher rates among Ashkenazim and Sephardim than among other Levantines.
