I got chills from that airplane story. Damn... Reminds me of a time I had to fly out from LA but had this strange feeling I shouldn't go. I even told my parents we should wait. Still got on the plane. We all boarded and sat there for about 45 minutes until the captain spoke on the intercom that they've noticed a blue fluid leaking out of one of the engines. They took everyone off of the plane and switched us to another. Not that weird but the feeling I had before was the strange part.

My dad had something simular like this "nearly dead experience." My dad used to work in a travelling circus. They were touring through Switzerland/France I believe, and they were ahead of some long tunnel. The tunnel would take several hours to surpass, so the crew had the idea to stop by a nearby road restaurant to eat and rest a bit because they had been driving for a while. Some people just wanted to go through the tunnel and then search for a restaurant, but eventually they stopped and had lunch in the nearest restaurant. A few hours later they heared on the radio that there was a big crash in the tunnel with a large fire and several hundred deaths.

It's so weird to think about, but if Deadmau5 was just one minute earlier to that flight, EDM today would be so much different without his influence. For lack of a better name (which included Ghosts n stuff and Strobe) wouldn't have been released. Skrillex probably wouldn't have as popular and influence the dubstep scene without him, and many other artists as well might either sound way different today or not be as well known. Freaky shit.

I had a similar experience on a British Airways flight from Brussels to Heathrow last year. The flight was taking forever to take off, we all must have been sitting in the plane for 45 minutes, because there was some sort of engine problem that they were trying to fix. Before the pilot even announced the issue I was getting bad vibes from being on the plane, the lights were constantly flickering and I was about ready to grab my stuff and ask to leave when they finally decided to cancel the flight (after they had backed out of the gate). So luckily instead of potentially dying in a plane crash, I got to spend the night at a four-star hotel in Brussels and received lots of free snacks à la British Airways customer service.

BA takes maintenance extremely seriously, the crew likely knew the flight would be cancelled as soon as problems appeared. They've only had one fatal accident ever, back in the 70's

That plane crash didn’t actually kill everyone on board, 18 people out of the almost 200 on board survived. The plane had a faulty sensor detected before take off and the plane was delayed, the faulty sensor was disabled and the plane cleared for flight. Over an hour delayed the plane went to take off and noticed immediate problems. It turns out that multiple things went wrong after the faulty sensor was detected. The plane took off without the flaps deployed due to the pilots being in a rush because of the delays and them skipping/rushing through preflight and takeoff checklists. The relay for the faulty sensor also powered a warning system for “dangerous takeoff configuration” that would’ve warned them about their flaps, since it was disabled they weren’t alerted to the error. That’s what caused the crash. So multiple errors compounded by pilots in a rush, and potentially worried about getting in trouble for being delayed for so long. It’s pretty tragic. He got really lucky.

The crash story is legit. It was about 10 years ago not 7 though(and there were 18 survivors, still not good odds). Spanair 5022 was the flight, caused by improper flaps settings. The crash looks very similar to Northwest 255, (whose captain ironically was named John Maus), which was also caused by inproper flaps settings.

I know it is rather irrelevant, but that crash was Spanair Flight 5022 and was bound for Gran Canaria that day. It had taken off from Barcelona, to Madrid and was ought to land in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I don't think it was Joel's flight at all. However, it must have been a horrible sight to see from the Barajas Airport. Ref: I live in Madrid. Ref2: I grew up on Gran Canaria. I knew people on that flight.

The crew were pressured to takeoff due to the company having financial issues, and as a result the first officer forgot to check if the flaps and slats (wing extensions to Increase lift on takeoff and landing, and drag for landing) and as a result after takeoff the aircraft didn’t have sufficient lift to stay airborne, and crashed. There were a few survivors

I had a friend who worked as s helicopter evac medic. He was a workaholic and never missed work but the day his daughter was born he took off to be at the hospital with his wife. That same day the helicopter malfunctioned and went down and he lost 3 guys he worked with for 5 years! Crazy world
