H3VR Modding Tutorial (R2ModMan 2021) - Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades

*This video assumes that you have a clean install of H3VR - if you have previous mods installed, it is recommended to remove them. You are able to delete the H3VR directory without losing save data (stored elsewhere) but you would need to redownload the game afterwards*
To get started with modding H3VR, head over to Thunderstore and download R2ModMan - thunderstore.i...
*If you are using a Quest and Virtual Desktop to play* You may have better luck launching the game via Steam with an argument. Under the Help section in R2MM there is a section at the bottom that lists an argument to append to H3VR from within Steam that will automatically launch the mod manager, which seems to play better with Virtual Desktop.
As always, be aware that modding your game can have unintended side effects. P L E A S E do not complain to the developer of H3VR if something goes wrong. One of the most common issues is running too many mods at once (especially the Modul mods since they are large) as they all eat up additional memory.

Hey. You know you can reload in your holsters in H3VR, by just putting the mag / bullets where they should be, and they'll go in without any hassle. Reccomended for guns that are picky with their mag reloads, or just shooting and reloading while climbing mountains.

Thank you for this video! I tried installing some maps but they just don’t seem to appear in my modded scenes thing. I thought it might’ve been because I was in the take and hold alpha beta on steam but even after changing that the maps didn’t appear. I’ve only installed maps so far because that’s all I’m really interesting in rn but I’ll try and see if other mods will load in just not sure why the maps aren’t working thus far.

It could be a problem with the file paths you've set in R2ModMan, taking a look at that and making sure they are correct could help things, or getting a modder to take a look at an output log.

This is awesome and I've got quite a few mods added now. My issue is with custom characters and take and hold maps. The custom characters don't even show up in the list, and while I can scroll over to the custom maps, the pedestal doesn't have the hotdog so I can't actually load the level. How do you use the custom characters and maps?

i think your problem might be not waiting for all of the mods to load in fully, idk about you but most of the time i mod tnh there is a progress percentage above the character selector for a minute or so and the start game hotdog only shows up when thats done

From my knowledge, most of the core mods needed to load other mods automatically disable leaderboards. I always just run with my item spawner on to turn it off on my side though, so im not 100% on it.

I just tried it with a couple gun skins, better hands, and some sound replacers and I _think_ it counted, but I'm not 100% sure since I didn't beat my old high score in the test I did. Weapon jams and bullet cracks sure do make the game 100x funner though....and I think i now know why Anton doesn't like the F2000.....heh...clunk machine 5000

Sideloader, the mod skins use to actually work, to my knowledge does not disable scoring, Take & Hold Tweaker and Otherloader should, as well as BetterHands if you have cheat options enabled.

When I try to start modded, it says "Error Starting Steam", and it suggests "Ensure that the Steam directory has been set correctly in the settings", even tho I selected the correct steam folder. Any fixes?

so totally out of the blue my mods wouldn't load, fixed it by doing a complete reinstall of both game and r2modman, now they load but I cant put magazines inside anything mag fed, and the launcher has multiple errors saying magwell trigger couldn't load

Okay disregard this, I followed the help section for R2 and made a new profile and that fixed the issue. I think it was a lack of harddrive space that made mods not install correctly

Sounds like you might be playing the MEATS game mode? You have to earn cash to unlock them in that one. They shouldn't be locked in any other scene

Youll need to disable the vanilla mag palming first (in the options panel, but i forget where off the top of my head) and then launch the game once from R2MM to generate the config file. The close the game, head to R2MM and look for the settings area and find the config files and you can customize the features

Hey I need some help, H3VR runs perfectly fine vanilla, but when I play it modded it can barely run it and lags every second if I merely breathe. I have 16gb of ram and a GTX 1060 3gb model. My headset is an oculus quest 2 using a link cable.

Depends on your computer and what mods you want. Anything that adds guns takes up more RAM. If you don't have a ton of RAM on your PC, keep those (especially the modul ones) to a minimum

Is it asking too much to run all the modul- mods at once? (Ar, Ak, Fal, pistol, shotgun.) Add an announcer and sosig voices and I get frequent 204 steamvr errors. I seem to struggle as it is with just shotgun, ak, and ar.

yes, for some reason R2Modman runs lots of big mods like crap. My PC runs out of 16GB of RAM on startup with all the Modul stuff installed

Yeah, Modul mods use up a lot of RAM during loading, since with the current system we need to load everything when the game starts up, there's going to be a solution available but it needs a bit more time to be ready.

I think the process is a bit different for quest wireless. Check the description of the video, there should be an argument you add to H3 on steam that boots R2 with it

You can use them if you are wired as well, I think the same thing is needed. I'll try and dig it up this evening, I'm just not familiar with it since I do use the Quest myself

You can go to your steam settings and add a line of text to tell the game to do specific things on launching. Quest users have said you need to do that to get mods working properly, instead of booting directly from r2mm
