Ha Ha Tonka State Park: Rising from the Ashes- Castle Ruins, Springs, Sinkholes, and Natural Bridges

It's the ruins that made me go, but I'll go back for the nature. This week we visited Ha Ha Tonka State Perk. There are miles and miles of trails through sink holes, natural bridges, boulders, springs & some amazing ruins of a Stone "Castle."

Seriously your passion for history is infectious, was always my favorite subject in school way back when, I always tried to imagine what it would have been like to be there. There is a civil war battle field not far from where I live( Pea Ridge national military park) and the first time I visited there I stood on the edge of one of the battle fields and tried to hear the canon roar and the sound of men dying and picture what it looked like to be there! I try to do that at every historical place I go, thank you for the superb presentation you do in all your videos! It’s almost as good as being there in person!

It was a find for me. I had never heard of it either. I saw a brochure at the battle of Lexington!!! I’m glad I found it!

At time2:30, we have been to Ha Ha Tonga several times but not to the bridge/ collapsed cave part. Thank you for showing a different area

I still think about that park from time to time. And I want to go back and explore more! It was an incredibly beautiful place to spend the day!

My grandmother was Robert M. Snyders sister. There is lots more to the story of Ha Ha Tonka that is heartbreaking. The Snyders weren’t able to finish the property as Uncle Robert had envisioned. Then a lengthy trial with the builders of the dam who only offered a pittance for the Snyders property that was flooded took most of the inheritance. The lawyers got rich from the case. The best thing that happened was the huge library of trans Mississippi books, 1400 volumes in all, collected by Robert M. ll, were purchased on behalf of UMKC and brought to Kansas City to their special collections just a very few weeks before the castle burned. Although it had long been a dream on behalf of some of the heirs that the ruins should become a park, when it finally happened the ribbon cutting was done by Gloria Snyder, the granddaughter who never knew the grandfather who died before she was born and who 19:10 19:10 once was slated to become “king of the .

Well I went there once in summer.. it was 108° … spring fed cove was busy .. hiking trails not so much 🥵

In all fairness I have lake home down in Ozarks. I’ve been many times but haven’t done symphony on the lawn yet.
