I am curious about your choice. I have used older Haas and Fadal machines, but I am approaching retirement and thinking about a hobby setup with a Tormach or Langmuir gantry machine. What sort of parts are you making and in what quantity? Why did the capabilities of the Tormach require an obvious upgrade (besides the tool changer)? If you have time to respond. Thanks

I’m looking to make production quantities of components for my espresso machine designs. So, a production level machine was on the menu. I hemmed and hawed quite a bit, but ultimately came to this because of cost and excellent financing options. If I had to do it again, I’d probably get a Tormach 1500MX due to lower cost of ownership and superior software. It wasn’t an option when I bought the HAAS though. If you want something small for the garage, you really can’t go wrong with a Tormach 440, as long as the small work envelope works for you. It’ll cut just about anything…I’ve pretty much cut everything on it, short of inconel and monel haha. If you’re looking for something a bit bigger, 1500MX would be my vote, though it’s new and I’ve never used one. So, take with a grain of salt. If #tormach is listening, I’d be happy to take a Tormach 1500MX and put it up against the HAAS 😉

Thanks for the input. The Tormach sounds like an option I need to explore. First I have to find someplace besides CA to live, then pull the pin on my job. I can't get laid off begging for it. Cheap bastards 😢
