The ability to turn and mill complex parts and perform multiple operations on one machine increases throughput, reduces handling, and improves accuracy. The Haas ST-20Y turning center provides 4" of Y-axis travel (±2" from the centerline) for off-center milling, drilling, and tapping, and comes standard with high-torque live tooling and a servo-driven C axis for versatile 4-axis capability.
The ST-20Y has a maximum capacity of 12" x 20.5", and features a 20 hp spindle that turns to 4000 rpm and yields 150 ft-lb of torque at 700 rpm. A 14-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret is standard, and rapids are 1200 ipm.

You know what is more fun to watch ? A CNC trained operator trying to cut a thread on a manual lath. You can sell tickets !

What is even more fun to watch is a manual guy trying to chase threads on a CNC lathe. It's not to hard to disengage the drive at your end point on a manual lathe and hand crank back to your starting point. Having a CNC lathe machinist schooling a manual guy on turning threads sells tickets.

It depends on the manual lathe you have at hand, some are equipped with devices or stopes specifically designed for threading.

Poor machining techniques. Rough turning with insert facing away and finish turning with insert facing up. Both tools need to be facing opposite directions in the turning process. You rough turn with insert facing at you for rigidity. All tool pressure is being pushed down into the bed of the lathe rather than it pushing up against the turret. Finishing with the insert facing away allows the shavings to drop away from the insert rather than laying on the insert. If maintaining a required surface finish this is the best way to insure you do not cut existing shavings laying up on top of the insert and possibly chipping your insert or marring your finish on the part.
