That's rather reasonable for refurbishment. I might just get my vf1 x and y done soon.

yeah considering new price is approx £1200 plus vat and delivery each for that size new from Haas when i got a couple 2 years ago for mine

Refurb is a good price considering the price of new. Good little update with plenty of detail as usual. Thanks for sharing Marc 👍🏻

Yes a refurbished screw is a very good option most of the time as long as there is no physical danmage to the screw

Thanks for telling the price on the reman ball screws, that seems quite reasonable. I was hooked on your channel when you did the memory update on your VF-O. Mine is a 96 and the board didn't look like yours. I wonder if I could substitute in the same board you up graded on yours, My memory is even smaller than what you started with.
@kinzy_fabrications21 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching, yes a refurbishment on the screw is not a bad price at all compared to a brand new one, With regards to the board upgrade on the memory, i played it safe and just occupied the empty spaces with the same chips it already had installed, but some boards dont come with a lot space so memory upgrade will depend on spaces available i guess. If you or anyone else was interested i have for sale the 3 stack of boards, mocon, video and processor out of my machines before i done the maincon upgrades, 1 of them has the 8meg memory and 1 of them has the 16mg memory

Not sure if one of your other videos shows it but would have liked to see some of the work on the oil metering valves, I have to change them on my haas soon.
@kinzy_fabrications21 күн бұрын
Hi The process to change is simple, i sell alot of metering unit kits to people as i reccomend changing them out every 2 years ideally and not every decade like most old machines that get forgotten about When changing them they can be very fiddly and tight for space on the smaller machines like the vf0/1/2 so take your time and ideally remove the complete line and manifold assembly and blow out the lines the make sure they are all clear before installing the new metering units Also on each ball nut they have a banjo style adaptor and the o rings either side of the bolt will be 20 years old and prone to leaking so replace the o'ring if it looks like it has leaked, its a hard subject to video in the machine due to space but i may go over it in more detail with a layout on the bench Thanks Marc

@@kinzy_fabrications thanks for the reply Marc, my machine is 2002 minimill so probably similar to VF0 o 1, just kind of wanted to see what I'll be getting myself into. I've only had the machine less then a year and have no history on it, likely been ages since it was done.

The sound quality is much better now. Does the VF2 have through spindle coolant?
@kinzy_fabrications15 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback No the vf2 does not have TSC I’ve never had a machine with it as yet

Hi, thank you for informative video. I have a question. What is your best way of testing screew backlash? I have retrofited Mikron VCE500 which is HAAS VF0 for some EU markets. I want to check it before using it (also my first CNC vertical mill)
@kinzy_fabrications21 күн бұрын
Hi If you can not get a ballbar test on the machine then the best way is a simple dial indicator in the spindle and go back to basics, set all backlash comp to zero on the axis your checking, touch off a part fixed to table etc and set dial to zero and set machine position to zero, jog machine off the part by a set amount and then back again and both the machine and dial should be back to zero, if they differ then you have some backlash and need to compensate in the control for that or replace the bearings and ballscrew if it is really bad

Haas has an oil check: one is supposed to time how long it takes to drop pressure after you lift the pump plunger. I am not sure about this test - seems my VF0 is just on edge. Would you mind filming this test on one of your machines? Thanks!
@kinzy_fabrications21 күн бұрын
That test kind of works but is not ideal, the best best is to remove all way covers in x y and z and then fully clean out the machine and looks for any leaks as i have had machines that were ok in the pressure drop test but were leaking at connections rather than getting oil to the truck or ballnut etc so a full clean and visual inspection is much better to do first off

@kinzy_fabrications ok, thanks. i will try that.

will you be using Synthetic Motor oil in the Oiler? get away from Vactra?

Hi Yes , for the last 2 or so years i have been using Mobil super 3000 5w-20 in all the Haas machines i have and service

Hello,I think that ballscrews are too small,they are like ballscrews for hobby routers.Did you test tolerances on parts when you mill hardened steel ? All of hurco vmc's I have there are 50mm linear guides, 50mm ballscrews with double nut,which is pretty impressive
@kinzy_fabrications21 күн бұрын
These size Haas machines only have 32mm ballscrews and 35mm x 32mm linear rails, so yes they are smaller than some other machines but they do ok for the majority of what I do with them, if you gonna be cutting nothing but hardened steels then I’d be looking at another machine brand like a Doosan maybe
@dejanvanevski439921 күн бұрын
@kinzy_fabrications I'm very happy with hurco machines, my friend bought new vmc haitian850 and also this machine comes with very small linear guides and ballscrews and machine was not cheap.
