I'm not in the market for a cnc machine, but if I was, I would buy one of yours soley because of these videos and how good they are. If you take this much time and effort to help people and make videos this good, I'm sure your machines are top notch. Keep up the good work.

Hi !!! I am using Haas VF7 in the workshop and would like to use the probe to find work offset on every part before running a program. Can you show me how to add that feature to my program so I won't have to do it manually ? Our part is a cylinder type, and I want my work offset to be in the center of the ID. Thanks for helping me out.

Why do you advocate using a protected move for the Z return, step 4? I thought it was always a waste of cycle time. Z-, X or Y P9810 moves are essential, but i've never hit anything going up in Z. Second question, I've never been able to get P9810 to move in more than one axis at once, the picture in the manual shows it moving accross and down in the arrow.
@haasautomation6 жыл бұрын
Matthew Gowan - I’m with you. In most cases, when I’m done probing a feature, I’ll just use a G53 G00 G90 Z0 to rapid my probe back to the Home Position, because I’m confident that won’t get me into trouble. When teaching probing, we always throw in that final Protected move, in case the user happens to be probing more than one feature, as you’ll want to tie all of those probing moves together with P9810 Safe moves (in case a typo is made). Thanks for the comment. As far as moving in more than one axis at a time with a P9810, this is pretty common (G65 P9810 F120. X-.25 Z-.4 ex), there may be something unique about the software version on your particular machine that I’m just not up to speed on. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day

I never used the protected move macro, I just use the g65 p9832 to turn it on and it alarms out of if it hits anything just like a protected move. I have always done it this way and it hasn't failed me yet, so unless I'm missing something you can omit the separate cycle.
@ydna6 жыл бұрын
Either method would work to the same outcome. The renishaw cycles use that o9810 routine when positioning within the other renishaw cycles, but running the skip movement would do the same thing (just with a different alarm text)

Sandman Actual - Yikes. Be very careful if trying this. This will definitely break your probe stylus on many Haas Machines. There might be some software versions out there where this works, but on the two machines I checked this morning, it would have broken the stylus off had I let it. The 50mm stylus on our Renishaw OMP 40-2 probes have a max travel of +/-12mm in X and Y, and 6mm in the Z, before the ceramic stylus breaks, to protect the probe. Thanks for the comment. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day
@zyndapp8006 жыл бұрын
We use P9359 to measure z-offset but on NGC control it switches the probe off after measuring so if the probing in program then continues with protected movement, I get an alarm 1086 Path obstructed because probe is switched off. Why is it so? It works perfectly on our VF-7 from 2007 for example.
@haasautomation6 жыл бұрын
zyndapp800 - The P9359 probing macro is output by IPS on some older machines, for Single Surface probing. This can work well, but it doesn’t give you the option of Protected Positioning moves while in-cycle, like we show in the video. Without these moves, if the probe tip makes contact with something, as you command it above the part, it will break. Like you said, the P9359 will turn the probe on and off automatically - which actually is more time consuming if probing more than one feature. I ran the P9359 cycle, on a new NGC machine (G65 P9359 W54. Z-1.) and it ran through without alarms. Shoot me an email offline, and we’ll get you going, TOD@haascnc.com. I think the IPS/VPS/VQC probing cycles are great if you are handjogging the probe up to the part, but if probing from within a G-Code program, I’d stick with the Renishaw Inspection Plus cycles. Thanks for the comment - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day

Hey there Mr. Mark , i am from India. We use the Haas vm6 machine. While setting the work offsets, in the bore , after the probing done , the probe is still in the bore then we used a command G0G90 G54 x0.0 y0.0; now there it hit to the bore and the probe stylus got broke. This is the problem we've been facing recently. So, is there any strategy to avoid the probe crash. Hope you give a solution to it.
@markterryberry44773 жыл бұрын
Until the probe is well above the part, we can make sure that all moves are done using G65 P9810 Protected Positioning Moves. If we move the probe, while it is on, with a P9810, then if it hits anything it will automatically stop. The G65 P9810 isn't a real probing cycle, it just allows us to move safely, and stop if it hits something before breaking the probe tip. G65 P9810 can be used with XY moves as well as Z

I know the goal is to sell and support Haas equipment, but just wondering, can you do a protected probe move with Mach3 on any machine or does it have to be a Haas controller? Thanks in advance.
@haasautomation6 жыл бұрын
Bert - I’m not sure on your particular machine. It comes down to the Machine Tool Builder and the Probing system. If it has a probe, making use of a Skip Signal, you can do some kind of protected positioning, even if you had to program it by hand. With our probes, Renishaw, they have written all of the cool macros for us, to be used with their probes, which makes everything easy. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day

So here is my metrology issue with this! If you build it with a broken ruler and validate it with the same broken rulers. All you have done is validation of the broken ruler! Plus you are consuming a lot of capacity that you could be machining parts. I designed a in process metrology station that was more accurate, and greatly improved the process. Saved lots of $$$$$

Bret - That’s a good point. Once the volume is there, it may make sense to bring the inspection out of the machine, using a Renishaw Equator or similar. Some shops will actually do comparative measurements, putting a finished good part in the machine and measure the in-process part against the known good one. Trust but verify. I trust the speedometer in my car (internal measure) enough to know when I’m speeding, I don’t need a cops radar gun (external measure) to tell me. It’s all about knowing whether you are making good parts, as early in the process as possible. Thanks for the comment. Calibrate those probes! - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day

Haas Automation, Inc. we do depend on our speedometer to keep us from having that conversation with the local PD. However if you install a taller tire your speedometer is off! I have been in manufacturing for over thirty years! And having the validation in process inspection is great. We just need to be careful in the process and eliminate any error that might occur! Secondary validation is my recommendation! With my operations manager hat on, I want it validated at the same time it is being manufactured! Time is money! If my spindle isn’t turning making chips, I’m loosing money!!! Lol Thanks for the videos, I appreciate what you folks do for the manufacturing world!!

yeah, lemme just pull those 9000 programs out of my ass first
@markterryberry44773 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe. The 9000 macro programs will come with the probe, when it is installed. If they get deleted and you need them again (happens all the time), you can reach out to your local Haas Factory Outlet Applications person and they can get them to you right away. We don't have these macros posted because it really matters what software version your machine is running, and we want to make sure people are getting the right Macro Programs for their particular setup. If you are reading this, and your probe is working fine, its a good time to get a backup of your machine and those 9000 programs now, just in case. Setting 23 9xxx on/off protects those programs from being copied or deleted.
