Brian,... awesomeness. Thank you. You are awesome and inspiring. I just wrote these 10 steps of Habits in my journal. I am trying to get back into jogging regularly. Really busy and focused on school right now. I have made it a habit of waking up each day at 2:30AM - 3:00AM to study, read and meditate. Getting back into meditation.... I meditate at least 20 minutes daily to start somewhere and grow my habit.

***** Cheers man! I just watched the video again. In just the very first tip, you explained beautifully the concept of finite willpower the importance of using that finite amount towards habit formation. I have started working on my habits again, and this time I am more mindful and aware of my willpower. I will post you with my progress in the coming weeks. Thanks again and cheers!! :)

Being habit addicts, I must say that I really enjoyed this video! In my top 10 I would put: adjust your environment too make it easier for your habit to happen. Think about the what ifs... E.g. Like if you want to start running. What if it rains... then I will do some pushups at home. What if I am injured? Then I will try to do some exercises to stay fit (for the moment my leg hurts, so the last couple of days I have been working my arm muscles with weights). Be your own devils advocate! I will always have one pair of running shoes and shorts in my car. You won another subscriber!

1> use willpower wisely. Use willpower to create a new habit. 2> focus on physical fundies 3> Keystone habit 4> no your why? how thing going to change after installing it 5> commit 100%. ur mind will convince u will do it tomorrow or later in the day 6> make it daily. use a habit tracker 7> make it easy. don't plan for 60 min mediation instead do it for 5 min 8> never miss a day 9> Definitely never mess TWO day back to back. if u have missed the first day, next day first priority job is the missed habit 10> embrace the process. focus on investing time, not on the result. remember at first it's going to suck. if u do it anyway u will start seeing the benefit and u will become unstoppable at the end.

Amazing how your videos come along just when I have made a commitment to change something(s) in my life. Very insprirational to receive confirmation that one is making the right choices. Thank you! I use a great app right now (Way of Life) that is really helping me to keep on track - I highly recommend it for those looking to set up new good habits or quitting old bad ones. A great way to follow your progress, very motivating. Can gardening be a keystone habit? I usually end up in my garden after work for a bit of peace and meditation. After that everything else seems to fall happily into place. Nurturing my (very small) garden seems to be a metaphore for how I approach other parts of my life. Once again Brian - really enjoy your videos and how you share your ideas.

Hey there Brian.Your work is very nice and informative.I have a question that bothers me quite a bit.When I install a new habit and I decided to do for example meditation,I start with lets say for 5 minutes.How do I know when to step it up? I know it takes 10 days to even set that habit in place,but when do I like step it up a notch ,so now instead of 5 minutes I do 10 minutes.So the specific question is how do I know when should I take it to the next level?

Brian Im sure your failure with the book The Power of Habits by Charles Duhigg. My question is after reading his book Im a bit confused and was wondering if you could help. In the Book he speaks of Cue, Routine, And Reward. My problem with that came after he then said "Keep" the Cue and the Reword but change the Routine. Could you explain how someone Keeps the Cue /Reward as they both seem equally damaging to me as the Routine. I guess what I mean is a cue could be I want to stay up late (Bad) which leads to a routine of Staying up late (bad habit) Which leads to a reward of Nothing but making me tired from getting up early and being more productive. Why would I keep the cue and reward lol ... Hope this isn't muddy :( Thanks
@HeroicBrian9 жыл бұрын
Moses Beard First, you see this? brianjohnson.me/philosophers-notes/the-power-of-habit-duhigg/ Quick take before checking in for dad duty! :) I'd say that your "wanting to stay up late" is a DESIRE not a cue per se. The cue would be the sun going down or your clock saying it's 8:00 (or whatever) then you'd use that old cue to trigger a new routine such as shutting down all electronics (good idea!) then you'd get the reward of feeling great--only the next morning when you wake up rather than the hit you currently get staying up late. Make sense?!
@mosesbeard37959 жыл бұрын
***** Got it just checked out your other video before you posted it cleared it up perfectly . You do change the cue I liked the word you used "Planted" The night before :) I just got confused when the author said keep the cue as I couldn't understand why the flip I would want to do that when it is one of the reasons for my bad habits. Totally got it now thanks again ..

Great video. This is a great planning guide. However, this does not implement any good tips or techniques to stick to habits or prevent failure early on.. I'm guessing you'll make another video or want people to just go by trial and error. A big one you also missed is not to jump into too many habits at once..
