I have an iron problem in my water, and I like the many benefits of cleaning vinegar, so after I shower I spray the shower walls with a spray bottle of cleaning vinegar that I keep in the sower, then I use a squeegee to remove it and an old towel to dry everything off (including the bathtub floor). I hate cleaning showers (says the house cleaner) so I clean mine everytime I use it. I do wipe it down so that it's dry. When I clean for a client the first thing I do is run the showers hot for 15 minutes so it gets hot and steamy while I'm doing other things. I use Dawn AND Vinegar to scrub the walls and floor down, a squeegee and always wipe it dry. For my out of state elderly parents who can't wipe down after showering I have them use a "clean shower" type product, (at first I was against those -- what's your opinion?) it does seem to help keep the scum down between their regular bi-monthly house cleanings.
@AskAngelaBrown3 жыл бұрын
The spray and away product I recommend is 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in a dark spray bottle amzn.to/3nhM9FB this one is made for Hydrogen Peroxide and will keep daylight and sunlight out of the bottle which will help protect the stability and effectiveness of the product. It will keep the grout white, and will remove surface mold and mildew which makes it a great product to spray on your way out of the shower. The small bottles are expensive compared to regular HP but you can refill the bottles when it runs out with a larger, cheaper bottle from any store.

I haven't cleaned my tub or shower in years! And they look like new! How often do you clean soap scum from the inside of your dish washer? How about from inside your washing machine? Correct, never. The best way to clean soap scum is never get it in the first place. Chunk all your bath soap and only use liquid soap. The main ingredient in bar soap is Sodium tallowate. Sodium tallowate is a true soap made by combining the fatty tissue (or tallow) of animals, such as cattle and sheep, with lye, typically sodium hydroxide". It's pure white animal fat that holds the soap in a clump. It sticks to the tile or tub and water will not run over it. Sits there and the water evaporates and leaves mineral deposits on the fat. Repeat a few times and you have "soap scum". Liquid soap or "detergent" holds oily skin residue in suspension and it washes everything away when you rinse. Just like your clothes or dish washer. Also an added benefit is that your drains will never clog up!!

After showering and squeegeeing the excess water out of the shower, spray the mold-collecting areas with hydrogen peroxide and leave it on the ceramic tile. Hello Angela, what is your recommendation for cleaning mold sprinkles on bathroom ceiling?
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
Yowser. If there is mold on your celings, it is possible that the mold is growing behind the walls. I' would stop what you are doing and immediately call a mitigator to come out and test for moisture. If you can catch it now while there are "sprinkles" of mold, you can save thousands in property damage. Your home owner's insurance will probably cover it if you call immediately. If you wait as long as 2 weeks, the home owners insurance may call it "neglect" and not cover it at all. Please don't ignore this.

Start by gently scrubbing the curtain with a mixture of warm water and Dawn. If there's mold or mildew, follow up with a vinegar solution of equal parts water and white vinegar. Rinse thoroughly after using any cleaning solution and check the manufacturer's care instructions for specific recommendations. This is great. We already do a few of these things but I will add a few more. Question: We just moved into a house where older people. The house has a distinct smell. We had a profession carpet cleaner clean all the carpets and deodorize them and do the air vents and steam clean and deodorize the tile in the bathrooms and laundry room. It helped greatly. The only part of the house that smells is the master bathroom/shower. What can I do? The shower is all tile and each time we shower the smell gets stronger. Any thoughts?
@AskAngelaBrown3 жыл бұрын
If the smell is in your shower, I wonder if it's the sewer lines or mold in the walls. Lots of times the toilet pipes are connected to the bathtub or shower pipes and when the toilets are backed up - the tub and showers will smell. A plumber could help with this. Tile by itself doesn't have a smell. So, if you're smelling it in the shower - it could be mold that is in the walls from a leak behind the faucets or shower head. A mold remediation specialist could help with this. They can test each floor of the home to determine if you have mold and they will check the attic and crawl spaces of the home. Since you've done a full house clean and deodorize but still have traces of the smells - I'm thinking it might be mold. The quicker you catch the mold - the less expensive it will be to remove.

If it's all bunched up when wet - that's where you get the ick and mold buildup.

@@AskAngelaBrown thanks so much! I do rinse my shower liner after each shower, but it still looks a little streaky. It may be from hard water. I’ll try using some Sal Suds on a blue scrubby pad and see if that works. If you have another suggestion, please let me know!

K. So these are prevention and maintenance. Saw some soap scum remover cleansers. Razors work for me but looking for a larger one that will save some time and work.
@AskAngelaBrown3 жыл бұрын
The goal with this video is to get homeowners to maintain their showers between professional cleanings. If you have a difficult to clean job, you may want to use a stronger chemical. Remember the pH of Dawn dish soap id 9 - 9.2? A degreaser like Krud Kutter Original Cleaner/Degreaser amzn.to/3newVBe with a pH of 12.2 may be a better bet for super icky showers. Once clean, you can go back to using Dawn. The secret is to use the chemical with the least amount of strength for the task at hand. (Note, you can get Krud Kutter cheaper at Home Depot or Lowes - I added it here so you can see what I'm talking about.)

What’s a good tip for showers with shower curtain liners? Thank you! 😊
@AskAngelaBrown3 жыл бұрын
Are the curtain liners plastic or cloth? And are you talking about a deep clean or a maintenance clean for the curtain liners? If they are really gross, you may want to replace them. The liners are usually under $5. You can remove the liners and put them in a hot cycle in the washing machine with 1/2 cup of white cleaning vinegar and run them for a cycle and then rehang to drip dry. Also, if you have a shower head on a hose, you can hose the soap off the curtains after each shower just like you would a glass door. That will prevent buildup.
@lionessm2353 жыл бұрын
@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you! We have one of each! Both shower heads have wands. It sounds like we’ve been doing the right thing. Short of spraying the plastic one with a cleaner after each shower I think hosing them off and then washing/replacing them seems like best practices. 👍🏻👍🏻

@@AskAngelaBrown I watched that video and appreciate that its able to remove some staining on hard surfaces. Where I dont have ANY success is the hardened white lime buildup at the bottom of chrome shower doors. Massachusetts has hard water where I am...and its a struggle. If you try and bear down on the hard scale with something like Scotch Brite...it damages the chrome. Letting it sit as a paste doesnt do much...its as hard as a rock. I just watched a video and they were cleaning fish tanks with lime scale and they used API PH Down...its a ph of around 2.5 sulfuric acid that is about the same as vinegar..OR Coca Cola. I sent for some on Amazon. It will sting your hands if you dont use gloves about the same as vinegar (acetic acid). Hopefully I can paint this stuff on and it will DISSOLVE. As a chemical reaction lime breaks down in acid presence. The video tested several acids and found the mentioned stuff best.

Vinegar is an (acid - pH 2.5) and dawn is a degreaser (alkaline - pH 9) so by mixing them you neutralize their individual cleaning power. It is NEVER recommended to mix cleaning chemicals unless you are a chemist. But it sounds like you are trying to do something specific. Vinegar by itself will remove streaks. How do you store this equipment in the shower?
@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
You can store them in your shower or right outside it where you can easily grab on your way into the shower. Some showers have benches which is perfect for the brush and sponge. The dish soap can stay with the shampoo (corner or shelf). Some squeegees also have a suction cup for hanging on a shower wall. I hope this helps!

Use a scrub brush for the ridges of where the door frames or glass meets the tub and the ridges where the tub meets the wall. Do it daily and the maintenance is a breeze.

Won’t vinegar remove the sealer from the grout? Because it’s acid
@ForGoodnesSake2 жыл бұрын
I saw that on another video but also it will deteriorate the rubber seals so I stopped doing that. Instead I use Bar Keepers Friend for heavy build up and/or hard water stains on glass doors, shower walls, countertops, faucets, it makes porcelain sinks and tubs shine like new...also removes rust stains. It's safe for natural stone and grout as well. For the grout I use a grout brush but I'll use a denture brush for smaller spots like around faucets. You can't use vinegar on natural stone it will etch it due to the acid.

Hi Nanday100, yes the the secret to prevent mildew on the grout is Hydrogen Peroxide in a spray bottle amzn.to/3tG33A5 These spray bottles are a great investment (put one in each tub or shower) and after you've cleaned the shower, spray the mildew areas with hydrogen peroxide and let drip dry. Hydrogen Peroxide will remove surface mold and keep the mildew at bay. The bottles are sunlight and daylight proof which will will protect the stability and effectiveness of the Hydrogen Peroxide. The spray bottles are small so you can refill them from a bigger jug when this runs out but the little spray can stay right in the shower. I'll make you a video about it.
