Hack4purpose 1st edition, a hackathon for those WHO NEVER TOOK A CHANCE ON THEMSELVES !!!! TO FIND THEIR PURPOSE ! For People and for Planet !
With 8500+ applications from over 16+ States across India, the massive turnout for sustainable innovations, from Feb 1st 2024 to May 29th 2024 the ideas, focus and energy towards building a sustainable planet was just so unbelievable. Focusing only on TIER 2 and TIER 3 (No IITs, IIMs, NITs..) and compulsory female candidate in all teams...with this first step we set our standard and put our vision into action !
Reaching over 4000+ colleges across India..we shortlisted the TOP 100 teams with the inputs of 33 renowned EXPERTS on the basis of several criteria such as understanding of problem statements, target audience, market size, novelty, business models, team strength, affordability, impact and alignment with the 17 sustainable development goals.
The Grand Finale was a mega event conducted with United Nations UNLEASH, a global organization for spearheading sustainable innovations by youth as principal partner, E-Yuva, Anna University as an innovation partner and Veera Group, a global brand in Waste to Energy machine manufacturing as title sponsor and industrial partner. Key sponsors contributed to the success of the event includes SaiRam Institutions, Sun Engineering Technologies, Unitech Group of Companies, Leo Impex, Abirami Industries, Microtech Engineers, and other kind hearted individuals.
The two-day event conducted at TAG Auditorium, Anna University (June 26th and 27th) began with the launch of the platform URU, the ultimate entrepreneurship destination, including prototyping, databases, collaborations, upskilling, national and international mentors, counsellors more importantly every resource available in every district in every State. Building such a database meant that there will be access to everyone anywhere anytime to TRY, to TAKE a CHANCE on them, their idea and create impact. Hence URU was much needed and with the help of our team of 25 women and students the app prototype was launched on June 26th 2024 during the Finale of Hack4Purpose 1st edition.
The second day June 27th opened with a bang, where Dr. Vivek Manoharan, United Nations UNLEASH Ambassador, Biomedical Scientist NUS Singapore and Entrepreneur-in-residence, Xartup conducted a training program on entrepreneurship in sustainability domain. Special Guests of Honor, included four successful businesswomen (Anbumathi, Entrepreneur & Design Thinking Expert; Rama Venugopal, Executive Director, Value Added Corporate services & Chairman Entrepreneurship Committee ACC, President, Consultants Consortium of Chennai, HemaPriya Jagadeesan, UNITECH GROUP OF COMPANIES and Ramya S, Co-Founder & Director M/S Prei Polar Engg Pvt Ltd) with decades of expertise in building long-standing enterprises sharing a panel. Following which, the award ceremony featured, the NATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY AWARD for the University with the highest number of applications for Hack4Purpose, and SaiRam Institutions bagged the award with over 400 applications out of the filtered 1500. The award was received by Dr C.R Rene Robin, Professor & Dean Innovation Sri Sairam Engineering College, who received the trophy along with their team.
The award ceremony for the top 3 places became a happy twist with two teams shared the first place of 1 lakh cash award, The Waste Warriors Team (Chittaranjan Behera, Rasmiranjan Sahoo, Sagarika Swain, Sajjan Kumar and Mentors Subhranshu Kumar Singh and DR.Bajra Panjar Mishra) from DRIEMS University, Cuttack, Odisha and Team Synergy, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Erode, Tamil Nadu (Hemasri M and Pranav Aditya P S), working on Waste to Energy and Precision Agriculture machine technologies; second place of 30,000 INR going to an all-female team NutriMasters (Fashtana Khan and Khadija Mogal) from College of Home Science Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai, Maharashtra working on healthy dietary snack options for nutritional deficiencies ; third place of 20,000 INR to The Boys team from Narasaraopet Institute of technology, Narasaraopeta, Andhra Pradesh (Sravan Kumar Gopisetty, Sk. Munna Nehith, B. Sai Prasad, T. Anusha) building device on concentrated solar thermal desalination. The competition being too neck to neck a special prize of 10,000 INR was also awarded as a last-minute surprise to Team TONIC (Deepak Singh, Harsh Kumar, Jothi Mathpal, Shubham Joshi) from Uttarakhand for their project on Sustainable tourism.
