Owner needs to definitively access the situation. What and when exactly has been replaced on this car so far. "miles" and "year" are a sales gimmick. A salvage yard windshield and side glass are worth it and relatively cheap. MECH A NIC could replace them, easily. Suction cup tool, 1 cartridge of urethane adhesive, removal tool. Ask her to have you degrease the entire mess. (DIY car wash pressure wash + 2 cans of Gunk) A fair "under hood wash" price is $25 + cleaner + 10 minutes of wand time. Stress the importance of a clean powertrain, easy to monitor leaks, see new damage.

Crazy the amount of money people dump into their vehicles, when a newer one could be had. Yes, easier said than done. because even in 2021, it is not JUST a question of money, as it is about credit. Glad there are good people out there that help their community out.

@HUBBABUBBADOOPYDOOP

Ok, before any arguments- I used to do this for a living, many years, and still do my own- but still disagree if you must. Buying a "Newer USED" car is just that- newer used parts. Vehicles are made up of parts. I would rather have a 1990 with $5,000 NEW parts than a USED 2010 "as is". A "used" car is a total crapshoot. A car that you've had a few years, renewing it's systems- is an _investment_. It builds equity- just like a house. I used to hear people, all the time say "why don't you buy a "newer" car, instead of "sinking money" into an "old" car? Is it still an "old" car if it has all new parts on/in it? No. After a while- you end up replacing the entire vehicle, except for frame/unibody structure. As long as the body is nice, decent paint, good HVAC, idles smooth, good on gas, comfy interior- what does model year mean?
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 3 жыл бұрын
I see your point but you can always look at the glass as half empty or half full. If people replaced all of the maintenance items all at the same time they yes its an investment and probably better than another used car but nobody does it like that. They fix the bare minimum . for example if the water pump gets replaced then 8 months later tie rods get done , then 6 months later serpentine belt.... That water pump is no longer "new" and is already and its way to failing. On top of that if the maintenance wasnt done i find they never took care of the body anyway. So your fancy new water pump means nothing on a car that looks like it belongs in the junk yard.
@HUBBABUBBADOOPYDOOP
@HUBBABUBBADOOPYDOOP 3 жыл бұрын
@@themechanic6117 oh, yes, agreed! "maintenance" is also upkeep. Basic "Preventative Maintenance" (PM) is not enough for longevity. Vehicles, houses, Humans, pets- all money pits.

So, This brings up a question. If you have a car that does not run and you decide to junk it, Are there junk yards that will come pick it up and hand you some cash for it? Or do you have to arrange the "last drive" to the junk yard? Im asking for a friend - lol...
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 3 жыл бұрын
If you drive it to the junk yard you'll get more money for it. If they have to send a tow truck to pick it up you'll get less money

Lift up the two front tires off the ground, make sure your power steering is full then turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, all the way left then all the way right while checking the fluid and adding , do that about 10 times .

So I was very confused when you sent power to to the horn and it worked because on normal fuse boxes the fuse comes before the relay but I looked up the wiring diagram and in the TIPM the relay comes before the fuse weird Chevy's absolute crap lol😂

My 2005 Malibu is doing OK, no major repairs needed, a water pump, alternator needed replacement but at 15 years that's to be expected. The real mistake for GM was replacing the pushrod 3.5L V6 for the OHC 3.6 V6, it did gain 55 HO over the older unit, (200vs255) but the long timing chain easily goes bad and most need to pull it out of a FWD vehicle to change it, not a cheap repair.
@PhillyDee215
@PhillyDee215 3 жыл бұрын
@@barryaiello3127 agreed👍but if I was GM I would've just kept the 3.8L in all the fwd cars....best V6 GM ever made👌
@barryaiello3127
@barryaiello3127 3 жыл бұрын
@@PhillyDee215 Yup, stone cold reliable, you can only get so much power from a pushrod design but most who got to pay for a timing set replacement on the 3.6 would have gladly lived without the extra 40 HP vs shelling out $2,000 for the repair.
