Agreed. Even if I hadn't touched NieR for like 3-4 months prior to the raid launching...but I've also played a bunch of games that have similar combat styles and evasion to NieR. So....seeing anything immediately brought up random memories of those games and I just....reacted without really knowing what I was reacting to

@@craigfunk3453 its just good visual design, its hard to forget those red/pink orbs in such a subdued color palette being a big thing to avoid, but even if you haven't played Nier its still a good visual. The biggest challenge compared to most FFXIV content is probably the fact you need to keep track of the whole arena in those fights, not just what the boss is doing.

You should know in alliance raids you never win rolls unless you get 95+ (though it's never a guarantee until the 99 roll)

I remember the first time I ran through this, I was freaking estatic because I loved NieR. Then I immediately remembered that Yoko Taro is involved in this, and that I was gonna be suffering at some point.

This appears to be the general consensus of the raid. People who like Nier, people who are easily swayed by sexbot ass: This raid is great! Everyone else: It's meh at best. The raid is just a mish-mash of old mechanics, made playable by cranking up the damage, and down the response time.

As long as the fights have great music, a nice aesthetic, and the mechanics offer some sort of challenge (they have some sort of punishment for messing up) then I’m happy. Plus, with Yoko Taro, the story could really go anywhere, and I’m really curious how he’ll tie FFXIV and Nier together.

@@mikeypon768 Really? Sorry, I must've blacked out when bosses used wind to push hurtboxes, or when they summoned towers to drop on players that you had to judge based on cuts. Now that you mention it, I think it was Moggle Mog that pulled out a rifle and forced you to turn the unmarked side towards him right? Dude, there's a difference between 'all enemies use hurtboxes' and 'literally copying beats so exact, people can call out the exact motions required to win before SEEING the boss.' Also, there's a world of difference between 'challenge' and 'attack lands with no warning one-shotting you' The only, and I mean *only* reason this raid is getting away with it, is because people are blinded by 2B ass. Notice that's the big topic of discussion with this raid tier: The ass nerfs. No one cares about the raid. No one cares about the story. But it's Yoko Taro, so that's par for the course, really.

@@TheDapperDragon As much as I hate to say it those mechanics aren't all that new. Hasmal's towers are standard, read the boss/arena and react accordingly, something we've had since Shiva; Mustadio's rifle is basically doom with a different safe places to look; bosses using knockbacks to place you in danger has been a thing since ARR; etc. A lot of mechanics tend to be some variation of something we've already seen before. In fact I think the only fights that brought anything new to the table was Yiazmat's use of polarity and Construct 9's basic math quiz. I will say this though, those raids have offered the most consistent and enjoyable difficulty, especially in comparison to the raids. As for the Yoko Taro thing, I can't say the same. I'm not sure about your end, but on my end all I've seen plenty of people getting excited about the story of Dark Apocalypse since it was teased almost a year ago. Meanwhile the talk about the leggings only lasted for about a week. Plus the only reason I even know about Yoko Taro in the first place was from hearing people praise him for his interesting stories and seeing them being right by playing Automata. Again, this might just be because of differing interests/experiences, so I really can't say why you'd think that.

You wanna know the worst part about being a Black Mage here? Besides... *gestures at video* That tunnel down to the triple-platform boss takes about 17 seconds. Which means there is absolutely no way to keep Enochian through it. Frankly I suspect that tunnel was already there and a shorter length when Yoshi-P, inspired by Yoko Taro's sense of humour, suggested extending the tunnel to 17 seconds.

That DBZ Abridged reference was over 9000. ;p I knew pretty much nothing about Nier before the raid, so all of the characters and locations were lost on me (though, loved the final boss music from the get-go). That said, I figured that touching the orbs would be a bad thing cause glowing pink/red orbs has never been a good thing (the final battle in Dun Scaith came to mind). Once I watched a playthrough of Nier and ran the raid again, it had more appeal.

It happens occasionally if the angle of the camera is too low while zoomed out. The start ring acts as a barrier that 'blocks' the camera line of sight style so it forces it in until you move the camera up towards a birds eye view
