The pilot was admittedly written with much less access to actual experts. Being that close to being right on tor, even if ultimately slightly conflating things is still more effort then most movies and tv shows put into hacking.

I feel like they intentionally put in some red herrings and falsehoods in the hacking scenes, just so the showrunners wouldn't be liable for showing a step-by-step tutorial on potential illegal activity. Kind of the same reason Breaking Bad intentionally didn't show how to make meth properly. Although my theory is unfounded and I'm just speculating.
@tyjohnston58892 жыл бұрын
Judging by your nodes and tor matrix browser selection choice of content in your feedback section I agree with your speculative comment.
@johnnyola22052 жыл бұрын
I'd say your theory is correct. It needed to be enough for people who code and do this instead of just random typing and screen shots as very smart people are watching. Also in Breaking Bad, like you said. Vince Gilligan spoke on that. Apparently the whole blue thing was artistic license as well. In John Wick, all the shots and bullets are accounted for. Not like the old days where a submachine gun could fire hundreds of rounds without running out. A full clip in any weapon runs out FAST.
@lowwastehighmelanin2 жыл бұрын
As I understand that was actually the case.

Mr Robot is the most realistic hacking show I have ever watched. Which makes it more complex and hard to understand by most people. Normally people don't enjoy this kind of staff, they are more familiar with the black screen with green letters. Press the few random letters on the keyboard hard, and boom... Hacked!

The type a few lines and "Im in!" definitely not how it works. I work at a cyber security company as a hacker and the show is on point. I have most of the same physical gadgets and the terms are all normal hacking/tech terms. They did good. A lot of it is hacking people and once you're in, you need to know persistence and how to move and escalate from there

I think they are being careful not to give too much away. When I was a child, I learned from a TV program how they stopped people from making protected video to video copies. Electronics was my hobby, I used this copyright knowledge to override the video protection and was able to make video copies when the video had the protection.

Umm I'm no expert, but from my understanding of the full scene, the guy was hosting the website himself, hence why Elliot was able to do what he did. Just by being connected to the coffee shop's wifi. He said his internet was abnormally fast for a coffee place, and so he started digging locally out of suspicion.
