I think baldor is going cheap on bearings, the vfd adding over current I think is a possibility but if you read on the nameplates these motors most say inverter ready. I have some baldors from 98 that are still on original bearings with no signs of failure. But most of our company from now when we order baldors we get the aegis kit already installed. All of my AAONs have come with the kits as well on the supply and return fans. Idk if anybody has seen the new blue donuts that go around the conductors between the drive and the motor?? Our local trane supply only carriers them and are pushing them as a vfd over current precaution instead of using the ground rings. There about 300 for the donut kit.

At my facility we recently replaced four Baldor TEFC motors that were about a year old on a fanwall application. The problem was NOT a lack of lubrication, as I ensured there was sufficient (but not too much) grease available. One of the failed motors was taken to a local motor shop, where the bearings were dismantled, and found to have fluting on the races. "Fluting" is when micro-arcing from the VFD occurs in the race, due to a lack of a grounding ring on the shaft. The motors should either have grounding rings, or insulated bearings. We're having a shaft voltage test done on the new motors this week, as I'm not convinced the new Baldor motors came with a pair of insulated bearings; only one out of two. Who would do that??

great video sir, i would like to know which tool did you use to remove the bearing and what brand it is
@hackfreehvac3 жыл бұрын
That's a common "jaw puller". From harbor freight. Auto parts stores sell them etc

So when you do all these bearing replacements do they tell you what bearings to use or do you know already what bearings to use?
@hackfreehvac4 жыл бұрын
Are you asking the brand or the part number? The part number for bearings are on most motor plates if they are pretty much 1HP or larger. I simply just get a photo of the motor plate and go pick up bearings from the local bearing supply. I use off the shelf bearings. Which seem to be better than whatever they used in these OEM

Hackfree, I would definitely install shaft grounding kit. Aegis makes a good one. I believe if you order motor they can be ordered with it already installed.

Good afternoon sir where do you find the proper bearings for your aaon Baldor motor? Also where do you obtain them from an HVAC store online ? Thanks.

I just go to the local bearing supply in Phoenix. Belt Bearing and Chain

One issue I’ve encountered with these Aaon units, I don’t have, and can’t seem to find the correct tool to pull the blower wheel. I have 3 different brands of blade/wheel pullers, but none fit the hub of an Aaon. Do you mind sharing your trick?

Is that one of those carrier high static chiller units in the background ?
@hackfreehvac5 жыл бұрын
No. It's just a pair of package heat pump units. A small one and a larger dual compressor 2 stage one.

Did you check to see if there is grease in the bearings I bought bearings and they where dry
@Alexander4708155 жыл бұрын
High frequency leak currents from the VFD can cause arcing in the bearings, this can kill them in a very short time.

Add a shaft grounding ring. I have had the same issue with 2-3 year old AAON units.

I gennerally add grease to the bearings. The one your had in the video had no grease in it

They sound like vintage hard drives when motor bearings fail lol

Too cheap to put a motor in with a grounding ring or ceramic bearings. Can’t wait til a couple years from now when the school I take care of (has 60 aaons) and the bearings start to go
