General principle that I've noticed and found myself, is you want laser turrets (4 to 6) for shield takedown, and direct fire Artillery or Railguns for damage once the shields are down. In RE the Heavy Missiles, which are the mediums in RE2 (if I remember correctly) are quite a useful addition against unshielded targets. The real shield killers once you can afford them are the EMP cruise missiles, 2 minimum, 4 ideally. Also a couple of Positron turrets can be useful for Target Designation, as if they're in range you get a continuous beam, thus if you set them to 'generators' you know where the generators are on the target ship (most useful for killing drones, at least in RE. Be interesting to see if they're changed in RE2 and Vermillion (I think) has confirmed that Dronespace has been updated in RE2). The initial hack screen is always 1-1-1. Sometimes it does matter which one you pick. Raptor is the best if it comes up followed by DM-???, If you're going to lose, or have at least 15% lead then go for a data vault, and you need the security system to be below 89% to guarantee a win if you're above 90%. I've been locked out with the sec sys on 92% and myself on 97%. The sec sys just has to get to 100% to lock you out no matter what percentage you are on. Also save your hacking software for systems that need it. Each system type has a different security system speed. The Security Systems on Zirax POIs have the highest speed, followed by their Comm Terminals. Neither of these can be successfully hack without at least 1 Fortify. Other systems like the observation satellites are generally trivial to hack successfully. The Casino's can be a huge loot fest, but you need a security card to be able to get in to the office to unlock the access to the vault. I think you get if from one of the Pirate POIs. Would need to go find a You-Tube video to confirm.. I know Xcal did it (badly) in the RE2 Anvil series. The general crew you get in the bars don't give you any benefits any longer. You need the specialized crew which you can only get from doing the missions the barmen have, and even then its only a 25% chance of yield a random specialized crewman.
