Bro's are you frikkin serious this is a MASSIVE NUG! i've been producing at home for about 7 months now and you've literally read and blown my mind with this video! Not only that, the fact you've gone so deep on the quest for fire album is super sick becasue i love that album. Free pack or not please keep cropping them nugs and going in super deep like you do because i'm really serious about making a living from music, living the dream and it's people like you who f****n help it happen and s**t. legends. take it easy. I'm literally gunna go and 808 glide the crap outta my speakers. so for this thank you. Also FM and sync combo is deadly

I thought Ableton was uncapable of doing the MIDI bends by semitones, just that annoying stupid numeric value thing, this right here is one of the Top 5 tips you've ever dropped. 🛐

Some amazing information here! FL has a note side feature that draws in a special MIDI note. It's stacked with the note you want to slide - the special MIDI note's pitch. The length of it also determines how fast the slide up or down is. Extra nug: If you take the same 808 in Serum or in audio, you can make a duplicate and edit the envelope into a matching kick or additional transient.

Oo I like this from the FL GANG!

Yeah, FL had this before Ableton but the Ableton MPE implementation just plain destroyed FL on this part, no need to go to FL for those sexy slides
@swomplord3608 ай бұрын
Solid Video guys! Couple things to add, most trap songs use the phrygian scale. It uses a half step up from the root which really emphasizes the "mean" sound. Also, I know this video is highlighting the uses of MPE, but the most common way to get the glide is just using portamento / legato with a short glide time. That way you can pencil in whatever notes you want to glide to / from.
@swomplord3608 ай бұрын
Also try using mpe with melodies or even gliding notes in chord progressions. You can be super creative with it!

Remarkable! The pitch bend trick for the 808 glide is a game-changer. It's clever and efficient, especially since it might eliminate the need for a compressor to balance the sound. This technique really opens up new creative possibilities. Thanks for sharing!

im a AVID Guy and i just enabled the MPE on the global and menu part. Routed the macro via master tun and source MPE press, pan, or timbre and automated. the only catch is its not on the scale side of the midi editor window so you have to read it by numbers not the notes but i got it to sound clean and it had that sound that drill slide. its on point it sounds better than normal pitch bend

Holy moly. This is a game changer! I had been automating Simplers Transpose knob (which also gives you visibility of semitones), but knowing I can get the same experience in Serum is so sick. My Abletons about to be a slip-n-slide out here!

You've been able to do this in FL forever. I would bet you a lot of UK drill producers are actually using FL because most hip hop producers use FL for some reason. At least the trap/drill producers. The only reason you guys weren't familiar with this in Ableton, is probably because glides went out of style around the same time fidget house died off. But it's always been there lol.

OMG please help, lol. idk if I'm just an idiot or what, but is the way your note expression editor the way it is because you're on Ableton Live 12? I'm on Live 11 suite.. I am able to find the note expressions tab (even that is in a different area then what you have displayed on your video) and when I click it, I'm able to adjust the slide, pressure, velocity, ect... however I am only able to slide/adjust it essentially in the screen were velocity is, so its not at the note/scale screen.... idk if I made ANY sense lmfao but haaaalllllpp!!!!!

A 5th is 7 semitones, 5st glides to a perfect 4th. Sorry to be annoying lol
@AFRoSHEENT3ARCMICHAEL698 ай бұрын
It's actually the 8th semi tone because zero is one. One starts on the open note unless you're using it as a zero point like we all do. So yes it's the 7th in the daw but that's because it starts on zero which is really one.

Thank fucking God dude this video genuinely answers many questions I have been so angry with because I didn't even know how to ask... If that makes sense? Lol Idk I've been producing maybe a year and I've always just been unable to find how to get nice 808s that can glide and bend with perfect precision that stays in key properly and hits the noted. This opens up a lot for me and seriously feels like I just scratched an itch I've had since I started producing. Thank you guys!! I be watching this at work rn I can't wait to get home and try this out
