I wonder if you had a Tayloe mixer driving a Quad phase RF combiner between the VCO and PLL you could use a switched XTAL oscillator which gets multiplied by 4 which drives the Johnson counter which drives the Tayloe mixer will allow you to change to other frequencies as long as the frequency from the Tayloe mixer is what the PLL expects you should be alright.

Not worth all the hassle considering export radios are better than ever and easier to get. Such as the Anytone 6666 or The Lincoln II. Most action these days is on the regular US 40 band anyway. 38 LSB is the new 27.555.

Chapter 28 of the UPD78F0483GC Datasheet lists the security i do not see any booby traps.. Whenever i get a PG-FP5 or a DX3018 QFP80 Adapter for the Xeltek 6100N Will try and dump for a backup.

why not just do away with the pll and just feed the vco variable voltage regulator? is the receive I or 2 if? if one it would be easy. or change the crystal frequency.

Hey: Mark. I'm working on the first version of the Uniden 980SSB. Someone did a clarifier mod & did it wrong so I wanted to return the radio to stock. I replaced the two jumpers & the tx freq pot. I only had coarse clarifier control at this point so I removed the clarifier control to find they cut two traces on this tiny board. I repaired that only to find I can't get tx & rx frequencies the same. I know RT351 is the tx freq adjust & I also found that L355 adjusts the freq. But the tx & rx are not the same. I don't know if the person who did the mod adjusted any other inductors liek the 3 close to the 10.6975 crystal, L215 L216 L217 or even L356. Being that I can't find a service manual for this radio I'm lost. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the late reply. There is no service info for the 980. I would have to take one out and probe around. If it's off frequency its very likely that the 10.6Mhz adjustments have been tinkered with.

@@Mark19960 Hi: Mark. I agree, someone had been into this radio before me. I think it's a loss cause & not worth me stressing over any further. These are crap radios compared to older Uniden / Cobra cb radios.

Hmm, why does that radio look so familiar. I swear I have seen it before. Oh, that's right, it's mine. ;-) Got to hate it when you release the magic smoke. Fine pitch pins suck when trying to probe them. Wish someone would come out with miniature versions of the DIP test clips. Without pulling my radio out again and looking would it be easier to get to the traces on the bottom side? Mike

Probably is... I need to look. The idea was only to stop the MCU in the front panel from talking to it so I could manipulate the registers myself.

Our power went out last night it was flickering before it happened to go off and I was trying to get to the computers and turn them off but I didn't get to the radio in time. It's a uniden 980 SSB. Gees, it's been a good radio and I usually leave it on in the daytime but this time wasn't a good idea to do that because by the time I had turned everything off and the power went off for a couple hours and when the power was restored I was turning everything back on I turned the radio on but the radio front display just flashes like the power is being turned on and off to the CB radio. What can I look for. I haven't opened the radio yet but I was just trying to get an idea what to look for when I do open it. Ty Oh, btw. My cobra, that was off, powers up just fine from Same ps

Actually, the real hack is yet to come. I can tell it to go to other frequencies but the method is impractical. I will follow up.... got a few things hitting the inbox just that fast :O

No doubt, an awesome update! I am one of the goof-balls who would drive around with a laptop, resending data & starting the process over everytime I powered the unit up! :D It makes one feel like a "real" hacker using the PC to manipulate the radio, imho! I could imagine a pcb could be crafted with storage built-in, the works all included.

I wish the FCC would crack down on all these guys running over 1000 watts on cb radio. There is zero reason to run more than 4 watts on AM & 12 watts on SSB in the cb band. I heard a guy on channel 6 saying that his linear was not at full power & he was drawing 340 amps. How many watts would this clown be pushing to draw 340 amps ? and that's not his maximum output. :(

my brother talked to a guy who owns a cb repair shop and he said you can't hack this. they made it so it can't be hacked and people are wasting their time my brother has this radio that's why he asked.

I had exactly the same type of guy who owned a local cb shop in the 90's tell me the same thing about my htx-100! I then went on to unlock it and 3 other of the same radio.
