Really appreciate you explaining how to use this remote. My 80-year old mother switched to Spectrum Xumo because it saved her quite a bit of money per month. But having to teach her how to use this remote has been...interesting. Basically it's just pushing buttons until you finally get what you want it to do, but then realizing you couldn't remember what it was you did to do it. The older Spectrum DVR box remotes had everything on the remote. It was huge, but at least you didn't have to worry about how many number of clicks to get to the center of the tootsie roll, so to speak.

Thanks for the comment! Love the tootsie roll analogy! It is a shame, I 100 % agree with your comparison to the older, functional remote. I also downgraded to save money. spectrum should be paying attention to these comments! Whoever makes the first simple streaming box with a clicker style remote will win big market share.

I believe you did a great job on this and it is so helpful, along with the others. Without your instructions I would not have been able to make this work at all. I am still not liking it so much, but I can at least do the basics now.

I wish there was an option to make the Spectrum Live TV go full screen on start up. I wish channel surfing could be enabled somehow. On my Apple TV I can surf through live channels in Freevee with the up down around the select button. I wish I could use my harmony remote and the channel up and down buttons to surf channels.

That’s correct. Paying $5 a month for the Xumo box hardware until it’s paid off then $0 a month for that ($60 total). The $5 or $10 a month for the DVR feature is extra, and monthly. I've noticed that even though my new Spectrum channel lineup plan no longer includes the SCIENCE channel, I can still setup auto DVR recordings for Science channel series, such as "How the Universe Works" and "What on Earth". Maybe they figure I'm paying for those series by having to watch the commercials.

I tried and cannot find a way. I had to delete 50 episodes of Matlock after it filled my DVR. I saw part 1 of an episode and was trying to catch part 2 so I recorded all episodes. Long story short, had to delete each and every episode one at a time. Not ideal!

I have a XUMO connected to a TV in my kitchen but the only DVR I have is connected to my living room TV. Wi anything I record in the kitchen go to my Spectrum DVR in the living room? I'm guessing it won't.

If they are both Xumo boxes it would work because Xumo is using a cloud DVR and not storing the recording on the box anymore, but rather storing the recording out on the internet. If you have Xumo in the kitchen and the traditional Spectrum box in the living room, I suspect they will not share recordings since the traditional Spectrum box has an in-box DVR (only on that box)

Hello, Iwas wondering if you could build a video trying to pair a "flipper " brand remote to a xumo box. I own a nursing home and we are having a rough time using the remote. I was there was a simple remote for this senior population. The flipper brand remote works awesome with spectrum cable box but is not compatible with xumo box they say. Maybe u can Crack the code

@TeichmeierBoys While the Flipper remote is programmable and can be taught from the Spectrum Xumo remote via its Infrared (IR) signals, there are two show stoppers that I cannot find a way around. The procedure for programming the Flipper would be very similar to this video, where we programmed a One-For-All remote to work with the Xumo box kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJfch52Fgp6HgK8 But with the Flipper, these are the two roadblocks facing it: 1. The channel up and channel down buttons do not work inside the spectrum app via the spectrum Xumo remote. So even if you program your Flipper to mimic the spectrum Xumo remote, you would lose channel flipping on the Flipper remote. The remote that comes with the Xumo box has no up-and-down channel buttons, and you would need that to start, in order to program the Flipper remote to mimic those behaviors, but they don’t exist on the source remote so there's no way I can see to program them into the Flipper remote. 2. There are not enough programmable keys on the Flipper to mimic the five basic navigation keys on the Spectrum Xumo remote that you need to operate the Xumo box. (These keys are the 4 directional arrow buttons and the center select enter button.) On the Flipper remote, you have almost everything you need, almost! Flipper has all the number buttons that you have on the spectrum xumo remote. Flipper has the volume up and down, the mute button and two dedicated buttons to select either the set top box or the TV. That leaves *only* four reprogrammable buttons on the Flipper remote, and, to make it even more confusing, two of those four available reprogrammable buttons on the Flipper are your channel up and down buttons. But even if that was something you could get used to, you would still be one button short on the Flipper: you'd be missing a button to mimic the center select enter button (from the Xumo remote) that is required to open the Spectrum App on the Xumo home screen. Hope that is helpful in some way.

Well no not really, their DVR interface is really not up to par with what was on the traditional cable boxes. You can see all your shows under My Library - View DVR, but only by scanning the guide am I seeing my future recordings.

What is the + button used for

The plus button works outside of the Spectrum app. You can use it to, when you find a show you want to watch later, hit the plus button while on that show’s thumbnail and it will save it to your My List (favorites). Far as I can tell, it only works outside of the Spectrum app.

This remote has the most unreasonable user interface I have ever seen. I would have to have an IT person by my side to maneuver through this thing. Not being able to pause live shows is totally unacceptable. What do you do if the doorbell rings, or one of your children calls for you? I am cancelling the entire package -internet and tv service because of this unreasonable remote!.

To pause shows you need a DVR. The remote doesn't offer this function alone. I have discovered that some Spectrum shows will pause, rewind, and fast forward, so that is a service offered thru Spectrum and separate from the Xumo box. KZbin TV also does this with all shows and requires no separate hardware other than your TV.

In the Spectrum App, no I cannot find a way to pause live tv. I can pause playback of prerecorded shows (either from on-demand or cloud DVR) by pressing the center circle on the remote. Hope that helps!

This xumo system is the worst, id have to live with a tech guy to use remote. Had a technician come out to the house because half the buttons would not work, he even had problems remembering much of the remote.Its going back this os no fun.

We have xumo and I think it's pure junk! Many service calls to fix it nothing has worked. Getting DVR box next. If this doesn't work it's bye bye spectrum

We just got fiber optic cable and spectrum and was given nothing to tell us how to use the XUMO remote. Not happy with this remote or the channel guide. WE WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO SAY THE CHANNEL NUMBER AND THE NETWORK BOTH
