That's what a Banzai charge probably looked like in real life. Suddenly, there are seemingly more enemy than you could possibly kill coming up the hill. All one could do would be stay there and die or fall back. I'm not sure how realistic the combat sequences were because I would think there would have been a lot of friendly fire casualties with people discharging automatic weapons while others are retreating and hand to hand fighting going on all around, but a fighting retreat like that was pure balls. Human nature would have been to run for your life with 1,000 Japanese infantry running at you on such close quarters.

generally banzai charges failed against Americans, who had so many automatic weapons compared to the Chinese or early war British. Theoretically it could work if you had that much in numbers and not so much of a no man's land to have to cross.

@@NYG5 You are correct. Fighting spirit won't win against a murderous barrage of .30 caliber lead, but they were terrifying. The soldiers and marines still had to keep reloading and shooting until they cut down 100% of them, then kill all the survivors, who were bent on killing Americans. Any small percentage that got through could blow you up with grenades or satchel charges or stab multiple friendlies with their bayonets. When you run out of ammunition, then it's down to hand to hand fighting, which is a nightmare. Imagine being in a fight where you know there is a 50/50 chance you're going to die. It was a gory business.

@NYG5 they did tend to fail against Americans, but still caused casualties and mayhem in the rear quite often. It's a terrifying battle tactic

Very intense. To think Desmond survived this while saving all those lives staying true to his pacifist beliefs. Smitty's death is just so tragic given the rapport he and Desmond developed especially with their rocky introduction. Fire Forged Friends indeed.

I mean if you’ve ever role played a medic in any combat game usually your one of the last people to go down, however, to do it so flawlessly is beyond a miracle.

they have,,, in fact U.S.A RUSSIA United Kingdom lost more than twice soldiers compared to the losses of infantry in germany, germany lost only because they are heavily outnumbered 1 vs 3
