Really love how you guys don't shy away from the stuff that goes wrong. I hope once the car is finished and driving that we'll see a rundown of how it handles the road and, hopefully, the strip.

There's also a bung behind the alternator which should be opened so that the oil pump can be primed up before starting the engine which is the way I did it after doing a hydraulic lifter replacement & an oil pan gasket replacement when I had to get the alloy oil pan welded up. Note the oil comes out like that in my engine sometimes - a bit glittery,I did check the oil pressure before I did the job & it tested as per Chevrolet specifications & with a warm engine :- 30 PSI at idle speed 37 PSI at 2000 RPMs 60 PSI at 4000 RPMs I actually pulled the oil pump apart & packed it with Molybdenum disulphide grease which is what I also coated the hydraulic lifters with as well as the new Rollmaster timing chain & sprocket kit. They do have a minimum oil pressure specification of 6 PSI at idle speed but if it got down that low I would be starting to check the oil pump & bearings. I would check the oil for the first 10,000 kilometres or so because the hydraulic lifters take up a fair bit of oil & so do the oil passages,I filled my engine up with about 6 litres of oil & dumped it out 5000 kilometres afterwards - only 3.8 litres of oil came out but it didn't happen again on the next oil change,I was using Repco 10W30 semi synthetic oil back then & now I use Nulon 10W40 full synthetic oil once every 10,000 kilometres or 6 months, whichever comes first. My father had trouble with that in his 3.8 litre V6 engine in his 2000 model VX Commodore because when he decided to slap a 2004 VY Commodore V6 engine in they decided to pull it apart & reseal it. They jammed the oil pump up with petroleum jelly & they had no oil pressure & a hydraulic lifter noise on startup,I don't know what happened but the oil pressure shot up to 60 PSI with a cold engine so the it must've had an air pocket in the oil pump. Why was the engine changed ? At 380,000 kilometres he elected to replace the engine rather than replace or get the cylinder heads rebuilt as it was ran on LPG & had exhaust valve seat recession so the bottom end could still be fitted into another car, the engine also needs new pushrods because they were scuffed on the tips !

Was gonna ask if the pickup was maybe giving you dramas with the aftermarket sump, then hit that part of the vid. damn aftermarket sumps.
