Had a Amazing Mid Morning @ Ipswich.

What a great time I had at this station while I was there, only filmed one shed and all these class 90s.

Its the luck of the draw Ian, last week I filmed two of these works and there was a 66 on the front, I was very lucky to get this many in such a short space of time. Mike.

I did a first class all-line rail-rover 30+ years ago, and well recall an A/C electric loco hauling me from Liverpool St to Ipswich. Not an area I have spent a lot of time in since but this video reminds me to make the effort to get out there again.

Yes that was a good line even past Ipswich when I think the 86s were working to Norwich then. Pleased this video might give you a day out over that way in the future.

Class 90s are amongst some of the few worthwhile items of any interest left to video/film these days on the great Eastern mainline Its a sad fact of life, the way our railways are getting so bland these days

Hi Mike, up until a couple of months ago virtually all the freightliners at Ipswich were class 66 hauled, only a handful were 90's, now it's becoming a bit of a rarity to see it. Most of them naturally do the trip from Ipswich yard to Felixstowe and back due to the lack of wires. Two reasons I have heard is the cost of fuel, plus some reliability problems with 66's due to their workload, it's not unusual to see at least 8 class 90's stabled. Not sure if you knew but if you go out of the station and turn left into Ranelagh Road and walk about quarter of a mile you can get photos of locos on the new fueling point, and there's usually a couple outside the sheds as well. Also you can go underneath the railway bridge and walk through Gyppeswick Park and get some really good angles of liners entering and leaving the yard.

Hello. Why do 90s operate in multiple, when they are just as powerful as 66s on paper? Is it because they are deemed more unreliable and therefore need the assurance of two locos per train?

Great video Mike, I like a trip to Ipswich on occasion to see 90's arriving with the liners for Felixstowe. However it's sometimes a lottery as they are frequently replaced by a shed. Well done 🤓

No its just what is available on the day what locos does what workings to Felixstowe/Ipswich these days.

@@antman09ful1 just a pity 90s can't run all the way to Felixstowe without having to come of at Ipswich so a 66 can take them. Now you can no longer see locomotives stabled near P4. At least you see some 90s stabled off the end of P1.
