I experienced a highly unusual and unsettling situation. A passenger attempted to redirect our route to an underground parking garage, which was not part of his original destination. During the ride, he pulled out a sawed-off part of a crutch from his pocket, claiming he had rescued a woman and wanted to return to the garage to ensure her safety.
Feeling uncomfortable, I stopped the car at a bus stop and asked him to exit the vehicle. When he refused, I contacted the police for assistance. Thankfully, the entire incident was captured on my dash cam and cell phone.
Watch the video for the full encounter and be aware of the risks we drivers sometimes face. Stay safe out there!

@@TENsion187 He did offer me $10, but I didn’t accept it. He made the offer when we were at the parking garage, but by that point, I just wanted him out of my car. I even told him I would take him for free because my main focus was getting him to a more populated area and ending the ride safely. His claim that he paid me was just an attempt to provoke me into an argument, but I didn’t respond to anything he said when I was standing outside the car. I stayed focused on getting him out of the vehicle.

As a retired commercial driver of trucks & tour busses, I could never drive today as Uber etc. You did awesome keeping your wits about you. Short story: 1974, I was driving with my girl friends & we saw a hitch hiker in town & one of the girls thought she knew him. She didn't after he got in. We were stopped at a light & he jokingly, thank goodness, pulled out a little pocket knife. Said we should be careful picking up strangers which I normally never would. I smiled & said, yes & that he should be careful accepting rides as I pulled my gun from under the seat. Never saw a guy exit a car so fast lol. My nick name at the gun club was "Dirty Harriet" as my weapon of choice was a Smith 44 mag.

I was traveling by bus one time, this was some time back in my mid 20s, and while waiting at one of the bus stations, i had this dude start talking to me... at first it seemed like normal conversations, talking about our trips. Then this guy, he said was coming from some concerts he follows and that he had all this weed on him, which he can't be traveling with. So he said he would give it to me, all i had to do was follow him out back. What's funny about this though. It's obvious, right? So of course i declined and walked away after this. But most people i told this to, they didn't catch on, like they all say they would have gone along with it. I can only imagine how many people thought it was their lucky day, then were surprised to find a knife pulled on them, or went around the corner to be introduced to a few of his friends. Just trust no one, safer that way. I was enjoying my trip, that was good enough, no risks of the sort were even worth it to me.

I don't normally give rides to people i dont know but thought I'd help her out. I drove her following her directions and pulled down the side street she told me to. Then she wanted me to turn down an alley. I refused and told her to get out. She wouldn't so i had to physically push her out of my car and I sped off. You raise a lot of valid points about the passenger's behavior. The reclining seat, changing his shirt, and trying to gain trust with a story about an abused female definitely set off red flags. His actions seemed calculated, and it’s true that there was no real reason for him to be in the front seat, but allowing him to sit there actually helped me keep an eye on him. I’m glad my instincts kicked in and I didn’t let him control the situation or get to the underground garage as he had planned. It was a tense moment, but acting quickly made all the difference.

I was a live-in caregiver to a bedridden (7 years) elderly lady who had died the day before and her big family gathered to grieve (and drink!). Apparently, the male boyfriend of the son had it in his head that I killed her! He shoved me. I was upset and walked toward the kitchen to get my phone to call 911, a female relative lured me with sympathy to “talk” with her on the couch and “tell me all about it” - a quick tag team plan to keep me away from my phone so I couldn’t report the assault. I fell for it. The offered sympathy had only been a ploy to distract me while her law enforcement jail guard sister stole my phone and took my dog’s tag off his collar to ID me. My chihuahua bit her and I never saw those belongings again. That family was screwed up and their mom’s death brought out all their bad cop tricks. They actually had a bad cop friend in uniform on duty lock me in the basement and pretend to their security cameras that I was screaming and banging on the door when I was calmly and quietly listening. I use to be an Uber driver for a big metropolitan place near my town. Once I picked up two couples one in their 50’s and the other 40’s. I picked them up from their hotel and they were very friendly but small red flags stood out to me such as the older man the entire time asking me to turn my Uber tracker off and that he would give me directions. I dropped them off at their restaurant and being young and dumb and figuring they were older and harmless I gave them my phone number since they requested to me pick them up personally. I did pick them up and took them back to their hotel but the entire ride they spoke about an infamous serial killer that was never found in my state. It really creeped me out and then they barraged me with invites to their room to have a drink as I was dropping them off. Something just didn’t feel right towards the end and alarm bells were ringing. To this day I really do feel they were inviting me up to their room for nefarious reasons…

Anyway, the driver called to confirm the pickup and you could tell she was a little suspicious but she had the destination and i told her why i picked the higher price point. It was the most expensive taxi ride of my life so far, but i was really appreciative and let her know as much. I paid, wished her a safe night and gave her a very generous rating and review. Sometimes, if people perceive you as weak or non-assertive, they don't react or act as if they're not hearing you. A bully will bully you until you stop him by letting him know you won't be bullied. @@CRoadwarrior I get what you’re saying, and I agree that it’s important to set boundaries and be assertive when necessary. However, I’ve always allowed people to sit in the front seat because, in my experience, it’s actually safer in certain situations. When a passenger is in the front, it allows me to keep a better eye on them and respond quickly if needed. If they’re in the back, it’s harder to see their movements, and you have less control over the situation. Plus, having someone right next to you makes it easier to communicate and defuse any tension before it escalates. That said, I do take my safety seriously and stay aware of what’s going on around me. I also think you might be mistaking my calm behavior for being passive. My calm demeanor wasn’t naive-it was strategic. I wanted him to believe he had the upper hand so I could control the situation and avoid escalation. Also, I’d like to point out that being assertive doesn’t necessarily mean yelling or raising your voice. It’s about confidently standing your ground and making your intentions clear, which is what I did in this situation. Thanks for your comment!

@Adileigh23
@Adileigh23 23 сағат бұрын
You bring up an excellent point. Professional drivers who are insured, licensed, bonded, and dispatched through a system with proper security protocols would certainly add a layer of safety and accountability to the ridesharing experience. While companies like Uber and Lyft do provide some level of screening, training, and insurance, it’s not quite the same as traditional taxi or livery services that follow stricter regulations. The lack of centralized dispatching and the freedom for almost anyone to sign up as a driver can leave some gaps in safety measures, which makes experience and awareness critical for rideshare drivers. There’s definitely something to be said for leaving it to professionals who have that extra training and support in place. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

Uber is so worried about passenger safety for PR but not at all worried about their drivers who are in a way more dangerous position. Companies do not care if you live or die, as long as there isn’t a law for it and it doesn’t ruin reputation. Sociopaths in charge.

Im a female and I NEVER ask to sit in the front with the uber drivers. In fact i met an uber driver on one of my trips and he was nice enough to offer to drive me outside of Uber and i could just pay cash. He ended up taking me about once a week, an hour and a half away, would wait for my appointment to be over and then drive me home. During that time we would laugh, talk, go to breakfast when we had time etc. And this went on for MONTHS. At no point did I ever even think to ask to sit in the front. That alone is suspect to me. Yea this guy was up to no good

That sounds like a wonderful experience, and it's great that you found a driver you felt so comfortable with. It's true that most passengers prefer sitting in the back, which makes asking to sit in the front stand out a bit more. In this case, I didn’t see it as suspicious at first, but things definitely changed once he got in the car and his behavior became unusual. Glad you shared your story-it’s refreshing to hear about positive interactions like that!

Whoa. You handled that like a boss. I'd say you were your own hero that day. Kudo's to great content. I don't really wish for more of this from you, but I would certainly be here to watch. Thank you for you.

5:07, soon as he takes his T-shirt off, he has a concealed blade under the black T-shirt. I am currently not at the end of the video but want to say this driver handed this situation remarkable well. Fair play to you driver.

Thanks for pointing that out! I believe what you’re seeing is actually the seatbelt, not a knife. It’s easy to mistake things in the video, but I double-checked, and there’s no sign of a weapon. It’s always good to stay cautious, though!

I was raised by violent, mentally ill drug using parents. I saw this behavior all the time, that of starting a conversation in the middle as if I knew what they were talking about. People who are that selfish and self-centered actually believe other people share their minds or something. At one point, later as an adult, my mother screamed at me on the phone because I didn't know about a store in her neighborhood even though I had never been to that city, let alone to her street. In her world, her reality was everyone's reality and anyone who claimed otherwise was obviously lying. It's terrifying to see that level of insanity up close and so specifically. It looks to me like this guy's got that level of delusion, along with all his other issues.

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience growing up, and I appreciate you sharing that. It sounds like you’ve seen this kind of behavior up close, which can definitely be unsettling. The guy’s behavior in my situation did seem disconnected from reality, and I can understand how it would remind you of similar situations. Staying calm and handling it cautiously was the best way to get through it. Thanks again for sharing your perspective.

Great. That dude is wandering around Phoenix, AZ, where I live. Hopefully, he won't be out of police custody for too long.

Thanks for your concern. I didn’t see him get arrested and left before the police arrived, so I’m not sure about his current status. Since he didn’t commit a crime, it’s unlikely he was taken into custody.

I don't think the driver was the target. He's leaned back acting weird like he commit a crime, or hiding from someone & is using the driver like a getaway car. Maybe he wanted to do a drive by or something. I definitely would not have allowed multiple stops. Sitting in the back would make robbing or attacking the driver easier.

It’s possible that the driver wasn’t the main target, but given the situation and the passenger’s behavior, it was crucial to stay alert and protect myself. The unpredictability made it important to be cautious and take necessary actions to ensure safety.

The driver is trying to make sure no other witnesses are around 100%. There's no way to know his intentions if i had to guess they take him into the garage and frame him for a crime with witnesses to the crime and tell him they are calling the cops if he doesn't do xyz either give em money or his car maybe both who knows.

He wanted to rob you and take your car. Laying back in the seat is to avoid cameras.

It’s definitely possible that his behavior was a sign of something suspicious. The fact that he got low in the seat raised my awareness, but it wasn’t the only thing. It was his entire demeanor and the way he was talking that set off red flags for me. That's why I trusted my instincts and took action before things could escalate.

It can be really disheartening to see people act in such unpredictable or concerning ways, especially when it puts others at risk. I’m grateful everything turned out alright and appreciate your support. Sometimes, it’s hard to understand why people behave the way they do, but I’m just thankful for the positive outcome.
