In a lot of the interpretations I’ve seen, she loves spending time with her husband in the underworld :D

@@CFEntertains- I think what they’re trying to point out was.. Hades came for her early. “That was NOT 6 months”. Something that has been shown a few times in the show is that Persephone arrives late (No Spring) and is picked up early (No Fall).

I can see the singular brain cell in Casper's head bounce back and forth between "oh my god his voice is so deep he's so cool" and "oh my god his voice is so deep that's so HOT" the second Hades speaks, and it's glorious. We need more bi panic representation on this channel.

I wouldn't say she hates the underworld, it's just as the musical has said prior. Hades keeps holding her back from going topside, so really she's getting frustrated at this point.

I saw Hadestown in person without hearing any songs before hand. The man playing Hades wasn't the original actor but also had an iconic deep voice. It shook the audience 😳 you could tell. Some women were fanning themselves. 😂

"Wears his heart on his sleeves" is literally a line in Anywhere the Wind Blows. It returns in a later song, and I thought for a second that later song was the only time it's said, so ALMOST an accidental Prophet Casper moment, but no, it's just a line already spoken that he brought up. c:

Hadestown uses the mythology as a reference/starting point, but it is far from and "accurate" adaptation. I would say that it creates its own mythology, inspired by the original myth of Hades and Persephone.
@matte57052 ай бұрын
One could argue that is the truest way to adapt myth as maleability and adapting to cultural and temporal changes was a key part of myth and the oral tradition it is based on. There is no single accurate or canonical version of the myth as it varied widely across the greco-roman empire
@izzyliberty87202 ай бұрын
the adaptation is more about the allegory behind it than any sort of "story" faithfulness/accuracy
@CindersSpot2 ай бұрын
@@matte5705 That is definitely one of the things I like best about Hadestown, that it actively addresses oral storytelling traditions and what it means to tell the same stories again and again. I don't think it is the only true way to adapt a mythological story, but it definitely is a very interesting take that is deeply rooted in the history of the tale.
@CindersSpot2 ай бұрын
@@izzyliberty8720 I agree! And the story of Orpheus lends itself really well to such an adaptation because it is already such an allegorical story. The specifics don't matter as much as that, no matter what, Orpheus turns around. That can mean a lot of different things.

There’s a big thing that this animatic leaves out! It’s lovely but this is a case where the staging of the show is doing a lot of the storytelling. During the first breakdown/dance break, it’s basically a Persephone solo dance piece. The fandom calls it the ‘exorcism’ dance. She’s basically transforming to be ready to head to the underworld. It’s a very dramatic (and not exactly elegant) dance number. She finishes right as she starts singing again.

great video and i am so excited you are doing hadestown. For your research for your musical i would say check out overly sarcastic production video miscellanceous myths: Hades and persephone. In it red goes over the myth of their marriage and a deep dive into how they were worship.

I don't know how far along you are with sfs so it might be too late to change anything with the story but I'd recommend looking into the hades game series, it's the first modern story about hades I've seen that includes his and persephone's son zagreus and I've completely fallen in love with how the three of them are written, the game's also just extremely addicting

I think the musical just cuts the cast down a bit by rolling similar gods into the same character, so Charon's job is given to Hermes and the 3 kings are replaced by just Hades doing everything underworld-related.
