Wonderful feeling for Hadrian’s personality from your tour. His creative restless nature, among other characteristics, did not appeal to his wife. For me personally there are two places I will definitely visit on my next trip to Rome, (but only during shoulder season ) are the Hadrians Villa, and the Castel St Angelo.

One has to assume that over the centuries this site was plundered by people looking for beautiful surface decoration that they could carry off to incorporate into their own homes or building projects. This is one reason why Hadrian's Villa today is mostly the remnants of its once ornately decorated walls.
