The Hadrian's Wall Path is one of the UK's excellent National Trails and covers 84 miles of Northern England. The trail eventually ends at Bowness on Solway on the Cumbrian Coast.

Fabulous video. I've just returned from the walk, completing it over 6 days west to east. Lovely to revisit the route with your informative narration.

This is the best video about Hadrians Wall Path I’ve seen, and I’ve watched many. Thank you for sharing. You do great work. I’ve visited England 6 or 7 times in the last 10 years and sadly have not made my way to the wall. The closest I came was when I was in Carlisle in early 2020. I had planned to take a train halfway and hike out to sycamore gap. But it had been pouring rain for days and there was no end in sight. So I decided to carry on to Edinburgh and return again one day. Wish I had braved the weather now. I still want to go but I’m sure it’s quite different without the mighty tree. I’ve asked friends if they’d like to join me one day, and none seem interested (need to get new friends). However one has voiced interest recently. So I’m hoping soon to hop back over the pond and do that hike. Your video has really rekindled my desire to do so. Thanks again.

Great video. By the way, the B6318 Military Road stems from 1746 under General Wade, and most likely created a lot of damage to Hardrian's Wall.

Yours is the first video that immediately points out Hadrian’s Wall! I’ve watch 6-10 minutes of others that say nothing about the wall and just show fields and sheep and cows!

@@WalkingintheWildwithJoeJackson Love the bits of history you give in your video. We’re in the US and had a trip on the QM2 planned in 2020, 21, and 22. All canceled due to Covid. The vacation included going to Hadrians Wall. This May we’re going to try again! We’ll be in New Castle for a short time and can only spend one day at “the wall.” Hoping to take the bus to some of the sites. Any recommendations?

@@emb74 The closest bit of wall from Newcastle is at Heddon on the Wall. Ideally the section around Vindolanda and Housesteads Forts are arguably the best! I would highly recommend visiting Vindolanda if you have a chance (Its about a mile or two from the Wall itself). Housesteads is also amazing and directly on the wall.

I think as this one starts at the end (wallsend) then goes the opposite way to others - as there is less wall at the normal start west of the country 😊👌🏼

Great video, wish I'd found this earlier, was researching for a photography trip rather than walking, and most of the content I'd found on KZbin was just about the walk. You put in so much information I ended up changing most of my plans less the 24 hours before heading up. At least I got the right area lol

Hi Joe. First time I've watched your videos and very much enjoyed this one! I have an interest in this trail for three reasons: 1. I am an avid hiker (age 70) and love to see videos like yours that show so many details about what can be seen along the trail. 2. I lived in the UK from May, 1963 to Jan. 1966 (US Airforce) 3. I am interested in Roman military history It appeared you and your wife did this hike from car to car (or one car and a shuttle). I've hiked thfirst 1100 miles of the Appalachian Trail (AT) in sections (since Feb. 1992). Most of it was with a few friends and the use of basecamp then a series of day hikes, car-to-car. I like that since one can use a day pack which allows for easier and longer hikes. However now, they've all "retired" from hiking and I'm backpacking the sections. Your knowledge about the area along the trail and sharing of information was very well done as well. Some people talk too much in videos of a trail. However, your balance of narration and filming was excellent. I have a channel and a playlist that shows the parts of the AT I've hiked thus far, so I have some knowledge of what goes into making a hiking video. I was impressed with your production of each video and the use of a drone, especially at the end - that was impressive and a great way to end the story of the hike. I have subscribed and will start looking at other videos on your channel. I have watched another channel which shows a couple hiking some of Britain's long trails. One thing I'm impressed with is the amount of open areas one sees when walking in the countryside in the UK. The AT is mostly within a forest. Question: Do you have any interest in doing other long hiking trails? Thank you for your great work on this series of videos, it provided me with several enoyable times of watching. I may send you an email in the future with more thoughts. God Bless!

Thank you for your kind words and im so happy you are enjoying the content. I will certainly have a look at some of your videos. I have heard of the AT but didnt know it had so much forest! Im sure I will enjoy watching those! I would love to do many more Long Distance Trails but certainly looking at the Coast to Coast and Pennine Way in the next few years.

We used mickeldore walking holidays and they were brilliant.They organised accommodation and did daily baggage transfersWe are in our seventies and the seven day eight night duration was about right for us,although the last stretch Carlisle to Bowness was challenging.

Wondering which way to walk: east to west or west to east?
@WalkingintheWildwithJoeJackson
@WalkingintheWildwithJoeJackson Жыл бұрын
Either way but I think East to West is best. Gets the tedious sections along the road over with first and I dont think finishing in Newcastle offers much in terms of beauty...

G'day - I've done the Wall 4 times now - including last year (2022) in full Roman Legionary kit. The advantage of starting at Bowness is the prevailing wind at your back, which is important to consider depending on when you plan to walk. The disadvantage is that last stretch through Newcastle (suburbs/ Central Newcastle/ industrial are) although quite a bit is along the Tyne and then follows what looks to be an old railway, so it isn't too bad. You're on pavement most of the day, so it will take a toll on your legs and feet after 75-odd miles though. I find the most difficult leg is from Twice-Brewed (near Sycamore Gap in the video) to Chollerford - a long stretch with no resupply opportunity other than Housesteads Roman Fort (which is at the beginning of the day 4 walk if you plan it as a 6 day walk west to east). All the other legs will have everything from a cooler box and an honesty jar where you can buy an ice cream or drink up to pubs, cafes and/ or shops. The best part of west to east can be finishing in Newcastle with good train links for onward travel and the variety of places to celebrate at the end of the walk! Going east to west gives you a nice finishing leg as the video shows, but you then have to get back to Carlisle (either a bus or taxi), which can be a bit tedious. Best pubs are The Greyhound Inn at Burgh by Sands (in the video) - I found the patrons there are always great to talk to; The Sampson Inn in Gilsland - really good food although it does fill up fast; and the Robin Hood Inn at East Wallhouses - where it's very easy to stop for a long, long time! Best overall advice is to know your limits. Don't just think about flat distances on a map - there's a bit of up and down to be taken into account, especially in the middle! Plan your daily legs on what you can comfortably do, as you will always walk slower than you plan. Do some practice walks with the weight you plan to carry for the distance you hope to walk, and change your plan if you need to based on this. Think about what you need to carry - there are services that will ferry your pack from point to point, allowing you to carry a day pack only while you walk, but you're then tied into a fixed schedule. Make sure you carry cash - especially some change for the small cooler box stalls. And ALWAYS carry a spare pair of laces or get a Kevlar set that won't break, use talcum power each day on your feet, and get some good quality hiking socks. Look after your feet - you want to remember the walk for the views you saw, not for the blister count. Best of Luck! 👍
