There is an event called “Te Matatini” that happens every couple years or so where all the tribes around NZ go to compete on stage by performing brackets consisting of waiata a ringa, waiata tira, haka, poi, whakaeke, moteatea, etc. I think you’d love Te Matatini, so check it out! 😁 God bless ❤️🙌

my family came from Hawaii to the SF Bay Area in 1959. When I was 2 they had been doing "luau's" for many years. Cooking, music and dance. I couldn't wait to be old enough to dance the Māori dances...especially this song. for as far back as i could remember i knew all of the māori songs and dances by heart. they were ALWAYS my favorite and always pulled at my heart strings...so to find this one as i almost turn 50 meant so much! now i have to find the other song we used to do but i JUST KNOW i am not spelling it right! maybe it's not even the name of the song but just lyrics in the song?

Very good, great to see all the kids enjoying participation just as I did during the 1950's.

I remember friends visiting their daughter in NZ in the early 70s showing us a cine-film of their being welcomed at Auckland airport to this song. I guess then it was quite the event to have a plane arrive from London!

I just hate seeing the kids do the wrong actions or do the actions late it's so annoying to me because when I was in school and I did this song for kapa haka If we did the wrong actions we had to stay for another 10 minutes
