Hagar : Tragic Bible Story of Abraham's concubine & Ishmael's mother

We tried to bring this beautiful biblical story to life with our words and pictures, but sometimes we get a bit creative in our interpretation. For instance, we mentioned that Ishmael was dying of dehydration when it was actually both he and Hagar who were in trouble, and it was God who showed Hagar the well, not an angel directly. Regarding the visuals, Sarah is described as extremely beautiful at age 99-but it was a challenge to represent that realistically. So, we focused more on capturing the feel of the scene instead of the exact details. We really want to keep the stories as true to the Bible as possible. Haggai was just a pawn iñ the story proof that some people were just not born for justice 😢she did no wrong but still endurance became her life throughout the pain of just being a child bearer who turns out to just be the satisfaction of their childless season then theyre Both the most unwanted in the story all we read of is Issac the promise child yet it was Sarah who put Haggai & Abraham to it she didn't bring it upon herself

These are good. I'd give them a B. I've found issues in each so far. This one shows Sarah as an average old unattractive woman but the Bible actually says that during this time she was so beautiful that abimilach the king chose her to be a wife. Not Hagar but Sarah. Also these have a lot of assumptions. We dont know exactly why Abraham agreed to sleep with Hagar, we also cant say that Sarah was afraid that Ishmael would be the heir. The heir can be whoever the father chooses. The Bible also says that Ishmael was mocking the weening of Isaac and SO Hagar and Ishmael were banished. Just a few thoughts.

Gen 21:9 But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking, 10 and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.” Ishmael was and will always be the son of sin. Hagaar represents a person who is "captive" to sin, while Sarah represents freedom. And those who Jesus sets free are free indeed. Hence the children of Sarah are the children of salvation. But the children of Hagaar are the children of perdition.

In fact Ishmael is the very first person in the Bible that God himself chooses to name God could have allowed them to die in the desert but he didn't. God saved Ishmael's Life twice. When Abraham died both Isaac and Ishmael were there to bury him. Abrahams many children with the woman after Sarah died were given their inheritances and sent off. First hagar, who would have been under the age of 40, was used an incubator by both, and when she got pregnant and does look down on sarah, Sarah gets jealous and starts abusing Hagar and Hagar runs into the wilderness. The angel finds her there and gives her the message from God telling her what to name her child and promising to make him a great nation.Hagar names God "the God who sees me". 13 years later is when God comes to Abraham and tells him that Sarah is going to have a child and to name the child Isaac. The literal translation to the word that people use as mocking or scoffing is laughing. So does that mean a derogatory laugh or just enjoying himself and she didn't like that? When Isaac is born, Sarah gets upset and wants Ishmael sent away so that he's not part of the inheritance. God comes to their rescue, he opens up a Wellspring from the ground, saves and blesses them. See Genesis chapter 16,17 and 21. Ch 25 for Keturah the woman and her sons after Sarah, and for Ishmael and Isaac burying their father.

You are correct that Sarah was still beautiful for the second time in her life a ruler takes her away and Abraham says she's just his sister. Pour abimelech the same thing happens later with isaac and him claiming Rebecca as just his sister.

Yes, Sarah didn't want Ishamel as the heir, and she also became Jealous of Hagar when she was pregnant with Ishamel, which are Normal human emotions I suppose..Sarah did ask thar they be Banished because of Ishmaels Mocking, it seemed like an extremely Harsh Punishment even for that time. Living in the Wilderness & fending for oneself & ones mother there are probably what made Ishmael a "Wild Donkey of a man" as Genesis 16 prophecies
