Yes, it's not spoken in English. However, theres not much dialogue in this film. It relies on heavily on its impeccable imagery and sound. Hagazussa goes deep into some old witchcraft folklore and paints it in a very graphic perspective. Its an awesome revenge flick.

No movie can be for everyone, but by staying true to its own unique vision this film somehow manages to transcend the medium- I EXPERIENCED this film, I didn't just watch it. This would not have worked if the director was focused on keeping the audience entertained instead of allowing this movie to unfold at its own pace. I am not sure if some of the things I heard and saw were actually in the film or if I hallucinated them because this film is quite literally spellbinding. At every moment I expected the film to be ruined with effects, but the director reigned it in and so your imagination fills the shadows with unnamable horrors. What an astounding debut! I haven't enjoyed a film as much since 'Under the Skin'.

I like your comment, as I felt the same with this movie, so if it's the horror slow burners you like, here's some recommendations, A dark song, angel eyes, the wailing, possum, the last one is heavy. I imagine you are familiar with, the witch, hereditary, midsommer, etc, as they are more mainstream. That's all that came to mind, but there are plenty, plenty more obscure gems if you know how to look.

People who experienced this movie as “boring” didn’t understand that this isn’t a movie about witchcraft, but about what women who practiced witchcraft went through, by how they were treated. It’s not visual horror, it’s psychological horror. If you’re about to watch it don’t expect gore or the paranormal. And prep yourself for REALLY paying attention and to observe very closely. Sadly most people who judged it as boring I talked to didn’t understand it at it all.

It was a an experience. Mounting dread, minimal dialogue. Great sound design. Some shots do linger. Its arthouse folk horror done right. Light on plot but it's an unsettling journey which leaves mainstream audiences flummoxed. Cult status.

Everyone's taste is different and I definitely embrace the difference now that being said, the real horror behind this movie is that it robbed me of a couple of hours of my life. lol. Every scene is dragged out way more than I have ever experienced a scene be dragged on and on and on to the point I actually started hitting fast forward to get through basically every scene. It was very hard for me to make too much sense out of this movie. Personally I would definitely recommend not getting stuck watching this film. You will definitely be held hostage and the ransom money will never arrive.

I REALLY want to like this movie. It's beautiful, eerie and mysterious. But I fell asleep both times trying to watch it. I know its suppose to be a slow burn but daaaaamn that was slow. Unpopular opinion, it was missing something. Looking at the trailer I expected this to be more horrific. It's for wannabe modern artsy hipsters who thinks still frame shots for minutes is bold or "revolutionairy". And portraying baby drowning and threesome rapes are edgy and not just display of the writers degenerate values. Its basically a slow paced game of thrones episode in german. I was not entertained. Very slow, very boring, not horror movie. More like psycho drama. Had to force myself out of sleep 3 times. Beautifully shot though, just as a still picture would be.
