that type of valve stem seal is a PITA. but they hold up better than the old fashioned umbrella seals. the only way I have ever been able to install them with out breaking at least one is with proper tool. I bought a KibbleWhite 20-20825 kit. it runs about $25 on summit racing, and includes the 4 most common size valve seal installation tools. they work wonders and I have not broken a seal since. they are a huge time saver.

I used something similar in size 30 yrs ago for automatic transmission parts in a factory. It was called a Typhoon and instead of a filter it allowed the solids to separate out like in a sediment trap and utilized a oil skimmer in the solution tank. I always wished I had access to one for my home projects instead of using stanisol in a small parts washer that the cleaner got rapidly contaminated when cleaning oily, greasy parts.

Those washers are at least 20 years old, you run the filters while the machine is running and there is a skimmer while the machine is not in use. If you clean the heavy crud off with a putty knife, most all parts come clean with one washing cycle, if not just flip the part and run through again.

After reading all the comments about cleaning valve/ timing/ pushrod covers... oil pans and the likes. I wonder if there is a market for an independent parts washing service. Four minute wash time? Seems like a possible gold mine!! Cleaning can be one of the most important steps, but it tends to be the WORST step 😉

Be really cautious about that RP. It tends to build on surfaces and mucks with clearances. Make sure to clean where bearings sit and where mating surfaces are with acetone to prevent the RP from tightening things up.

You never really empty the wash water, you have the filter while it is in use. When it is not in use the oil products float to the top, the machine should have a skimmer that removes the floating scum.
