Ariel Atom has become way too gimmicky & completely opposite of its original idea! It was an ultra light, minimalistic sports vehicle, costing around $20,000, while offering sports car acceleration, handling & overall feeling. This new model has grown too big, to wide, too gimmicky & WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. $100, 000 for this?! Please.
@fletch97022 жыл бұрын
@@tropickman You're thinking of something else. The Atom was never a budget car at 20K USD. It's always been a boutique product made in very limited numbers. Too big? To (really?) wide? It's still significantly smaller than a KTM X-Bow & miles lighter. Seriously if this is too big & bulky for you, maybe you should consider a skateboard.

Would absolutely LOVE to drive one of these some day. I’m a car guy for sure, but more so a motorcycle enthusiast, and this to me seems to be the car equivalent of a motorcycle on four wheels. Absolutely raw, no creature comforts, and a direct connection between man and machine. In a sea of vanilla cars and isolation chambers on the road these days, it’s not surprising this car and similar other options out there have really taken off! 😁

I live in Europe and have had a couple of Caterham 7's over the least 30 years. After nearly fifty years since Lotus first intoduced the idea they are certainly classics. As for every day use as a car? Forget it, try driving one in the wet or snow. The Atom is the same kind of car, buy one for sunny Sundays and track days and use the Hyundai or Honda for the supermarket and commuting. If you live in a cooler climate, put it away in the winter. If you live in a hot climate you will miss the shade and aircon on a hot day. Believe me you need two cars!

Director at Ariel says they reckon they could get about 550 HP out of this engine in the 4R package. Thats about £25 000 extra on top of the 4R package. That would make its power to weight ratio quite close to 1 HP/kg. I reckon in that config, with some street illegal pre-warmed slicks it could do 0-60 in under 2 seconds and do sub-9 seconds at the quarter mile.
