Haguro-san Five-Story Pagoda - Yamagata - 羽黒山五重塔

As one of Japan's mythical three holy mountains of Dewa, Mt Haguro is surrounded by a lush forest and has been welcoming visitors to its peak since the 6th Century A.D. Climbing to the top of Dewa is not an easy trek with its 2,446 stone steps. But, prior to doing so, you will be welcomed by a gorgeous five-story pagoda, which happens to be the oldest and tallest in the Tohoku region. Originally constructed during the Heian Period (794-1185) it was later rebuilt in 1372. Built in the kokerabuki shiraki zukuri style, the whole structure does not feature any nails or metallic fasteners.

I remember going there a while ago, it is an area not really used to international tourist, I would advise to go there with a local guide with you or only if you're quite confident in your Japanese (or if you are not afraid of being lost).
