I think Reki (and Rakka) are sin-bound because they not only committed scuicide but had help and ignored it. the whole thing with the crow makes me think that Rakka had people who were trying to help but she tried to deal on her own and killed herself. same with Reki because of the ending. (my take anyway)

This was the first anime I ever watched all the way through ^^ I remember my baby sitter showing it to me on you tube one day after I asked her if there were any other cartoons like Spirited away, but I couldn't read fast enough to follow all the sub titles at the time, ha, I would watch one episode almost four times just so I could get all the words right. I found it years later in an anime shop, I almost cried when I started re watching it all.

I wonder if your baby sitter actually know this anime or chose this randomly, what a cool baby sitter either way lol
i finished this anime recently and i haven't stopped thinking about it. genuinely considering a second watch barely a week after the first it was that good. i adore how it handles "ugly" feelings, and the self-harm scene with rakka and reki brought me to tears.

In every dream is somoene who cares and lookes after you, in reki's dream you heared a voice calling her name, in rakka's dream there was a bird. When you remember your dream before you enter the afterlife place and understands itt its a way of accepting yourself and to forgive.
@BothHands17 жыл бұрын
I'm crying so hard. I listened to Free Bird before this one, and I literally lost all strength in my body and collapsed into a sobbing pile of flesh on the ground. This song is almost as powerful. I can barely type through the tears, even though the song's been over for several minutes. Masumi Itou and Outani Kou are magical together. Paired perfectly with Yoshitoshi ABe's pure genius.

I discovered this anime only very recently (April 2024), and when I listened to that interview of the creator uploaded here in yt since 10 years ago, I discovered even better reasons to pay attention to these hidden gems. It's almost criminal to underestimate any creation that's not popular, and much worse, hated by mainstream audiences who are stuck on shonen tropes and cliches. Nothing wrong with loving dbz, naruto, one piece, bleach, pokemon etc... but to use those as absolute standards as to what EVERYONE else should like (esp those who say that their anime is one of the 3G and deserve to be on top of everything or everyone) sounds worse than arguments between daycare toddlers. At least some kids have more maturity to realize that the best is not always the majority preference.

If anyone asks if the singing voice is familiar, you're not wrong... Masumi Itō (sometimes using the pseudonym Hikaru Nanase), the singer, also sang (and at times composed) music for Azumanga Daioh (yes, really; you won't unhear the same vocals in "Soramimi Cake" and "Raspberry Heaven"), Scrapped Princess, Noein: To Your Other Self, and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.

Those who remain Sin-Bound loose their wings and halo after a while and live their lives in the Temple, never interacting with the Haibane or the humans. The Speaker was one of those who remained sinbound. Also the maker said that he used the wings and halo because they simply looked cool, so they're not "angels" They're most likely tortured souls (suicide, never born, left alone, etc.) in a purgatory of sorts before they are reborn (Day Of Flight/Day Of Leaving The Nest).
@ashtrayangels Жыл бұрын
I cried so many times while watching it, the most painful part is when the characters admit what their hearts hold onto like a dagger they were just stabbed with. And then the reflection about abandonment trauma, and how, besides having gotten a new chance as haibane they kept making the same mistakes because trauma was still in their systems. I don't think of intrusive thoughts as sins, tho i know that's how it is viewed by many christians. However i believe true spirituality to be the acceptance of life being a part of everything, therefore we're all connected. And this anime reminds me of madoka magica, evangelion and of course serial experiments lain; because "everything is connected" we have to be our higher selves. That way our pain will finally be useful, right? I got really attached to Reki and Rakka; constantly at the bottom of a pit, trying to figure out whether i was better off without people or not, thinking i wasn't worthy of redemption nor help, but everyone deserves to be better, because life should be more about love, it's all about the details we miss because we're stubborn, and if i can make a difference, then it's worth it.
I kinda wish my housemate never showed this anime to me. I’ve been dealing with a relapse of my rather severe depression, and self termination has been on my mind. I never got a chance to be myself. Like… anything I loved when I was little was taken away… every thought I had broken… until I got to the point where I believe that, since I can’t be loved, then I can be useful. I’ve lived with that mindset for most of my life. Last night we watched up until the major scene with Kuu, and… This anime made me realize that I never got to have innocence. I never got to be a child. I never got to explore this world with curiosity, or wonder, or hope. I don’t know when my time will come, but I know it’s soon. Hopefully I can find hope before then. I don’t want to leave this world, but I don’t see a place for myself in it anymore.

I've been dealing with the things alike for my life aswell, and as I watched this anime the lyrics of the ending song caught my ear, they were too familiar to my life. I began to notice more things in the show to be close to me, to the point I thought I knew this anime from the very childhood (which I couldn't in any way). Then I knew that the show is going to show me something of most importance, something to change my life. And closer I got to the ending I started to realize that it's gonna give me *realization*, and it did. I had a huge relief. Watch the show to the very end and pay attention to all details, they all matter. Stay safe.

thanks for the well wishes! I’m doing much better these days. Shortly after I had posted that, I wound up hospitalized after telling my psych that I had a plan and the supplies to end it. You might be thinking “wow… you must’ve not been serious if you tattled on yourself…” but the truth is that I didn’t want to do it, but every one of my depressed neurons was telling me I needed to do it, and it was getting harder and harder to refute them. So, she ordered me to the ER or she would have the cops escort me (it was a telehealth visit lol). I’ve always been really depressed, so this was just another chapter in a longer, more upsetting story not fit for a response to a response to an anime outro song. It did mean, however, that they considered more intensive treatments for me beyond drugs and therapy. Soooo, after a month of getting daily treatments of electromagnetic radiation fired into my brain, and after 6 more turbulent months following that, I am finally on solid ground! I’m even finally continuing on my path to my dream career of being a therapist myself. It’s still hard, and I’ve accepted that the voice in me telling me that I need to “cancel my life subscription” will never truly go away, but now I am capable of fighting it. I’ll likely need to undergo TMS again some day in the future, but for now I am finally alive.
