Batman movie previewed is now out kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpyudqWtp8Zsm8Usi=O14mYDouQfB6YCxz After doing some research I have to question filter consistency between filters where one could be just bad and another amazing. I would really like to have more people with experience and maybe even a replacement after a bad one to confirm or deny this. Some people have bad experiences when looking at reviews (B&H Photo) some bad and some wonderful and a commenter on this video. I'm good 2 for 2 BUT I think my first copy might be even better than my second copy on the ND front. At the end of this video where I show Batman footage it was strictly recorded with a 33mm APS-C lens with the Haida Pro II my first purchased one.

I've bought this filter at the beginning of the month after watching some positives tests on KZbin and despite some bad reviews on B&H and I have been putting it to the test since yesterday in multiple situations because I found that in some footages I recorded the image looked weird. I am still planning on running more test footages in the coming days before having a final opinion but as of right now I am not pleased with it. I find that a magenta color cast come to ruin my footages quite a lot. It is mostly the case on my skin and on grey surfaces, I however need to conduct more tests because most of these footages have been recorded in a green background with trees and stuff. Also depending on how the cpl is oriented the saturation and an x-pattern can appear. I am still try to find where the CPL becomes the most neutral. I use it on my Fuji X-S20 with the 18-55mm with a step up ring.

With the color shift using color checker especially when not saturated by bright sunlight yourself the color shift can certainly be a thing. With my Batman movie I did a color check about every 3 hours or before each shoot

Nice camera and lens. I use that same camera but always use my XF prime lenses. I didn't notice any issues with my 18-55mm lens but I did want to test both lenses since one seems more dark corners than the other and my original filter doesn't seem very effective but this new one is very noticeable. Consistency seems to be an issue.

Thanks for the info. Using a hood with it is cool, since you can just leave it on and cap off the hood to protect the filter.

Your content is very informative. And I appreciate that it is an honest review. It's interesting that you found the Haida to be more smooth and silky, and the Freewell to be more grainy of an image. You said that from your experience the Freewell would be better for photography and the Haida for video recording. Why is that?
@sparkestudio7 ай бұрын
I found the Freewell image wise more consistent. The end of the video technically tells you everything in the pros and cons but so does one obvious statement I make. Color shift. I also believe but can not personal hard confirm due to 82mm vs 67mm filters on a 58mm lens is not exactly a fair comparison (if you saw the Freewell video). Freewell at least appears to have less vignette and looking at user experience it seems Freewell may have more consistent quality from one sample to the next. However we still must consider the proa and cons for what works for you AND that I end with I wouldn't recommend a VND for photography but a regular ND. I ultimately want the decision to be yours but photography is generally, I believe considered more of an art of perfection of color and even lightning. More often vignettes are used more purposely artistically *in video*. AND in photography it is far more likely you are maxing that VND to give that milky water look and best photo contrast is found in sunny environments to capture the depths of shadow detail.

Looks promising. For some reason this is not sold in Norway. Some don't have the X pattern, there does not seem to be an X pattern with this filter. but definitely vignetting as you point to at 3:28 very noticeable, So maybe it's not for me. 5:27 I guess you could hold it with the other hand. But not everyone has a working and or arm or have one. So for these people one handed use is important. Have you tried NISI yet or plans for it? They looked promising. But I haven't tried it yet, but now I got the lens I wanted, it got 82mm thread. The magenta shift is likely easy to fix in post. So this seems usable.

Next week I am reviewing the K&F 2 in 1 CPL / VND true color filter. Every filter is out of pocket cost.
So, the frewell you tested: when you lock de pl and change the nd intesity the cpl doesn´t change right? I mean, you don´t have to "recalibrate" the cpl after changing the nd intensity but in this one you do is that right?
@sparkestudio7 ай бұрын
Freewell locks into place. This one doesn't and can shift the CPL slightly as I was showing with the movement of that red ring. Hope that answers if for you. Freewell locks in and for me not convenient, I didn't bother even using it during my quick test before returning it.

I’m currently using the Haida PROII CPL-VND 2-in-1 filter, and I’ve noticed a recurring issue. Whenever I use it, I see a dark spot that moves as I rotate the filter. Sometimes, I can make small adjustments to make it disappear, but I’ve had difficulty spotting the dark spot, especially during night photography. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are all CPL filters like this, or is it specific to this model? Thanks in advance for your help!

@@AdamAdam-ut7dn i bought 2 of these filters one for each camera. It sounds like your copy has an uneven spot which would rotate with movement Forgot to add,, you should get it replaced with a proper copy without defect. If you haven't already clean the filter in case there is any debris. My K&F copy has an odd stop right out of the package. Zeiss lens whip fixed it right up

When I post my K&F review next week you'll have a 3rd one on your mind. At the end of this video I list the pros and the cons of each one. This video and the link to the freewell and the issues I found about it should make clear which is best. BUT if you don't color correct, Freewell is simply more accurate. I made the movie I show in this video with the haida filter but I used a color checker. When I didn't color check, the color shift was BAD when it was closer to the sunset, especially in the shade.

Neither. The K&F I review is better than both. All are out of pocket cost. Only loss to K&F is that it is 1 to 5 stop and not a 3 to 7 stop K&F VND + CPL review kzbin.info/www/bejne/paHFiI1jdpeCm5o

@sparkestudio2 ай бұрын
@@davidxiu8020 need more detail than what you wrote. I used 2 lenses both were APS-C. The camera full frame, micro four third or APS-C is all different but best I say is nearly all VND have some Vignette. If you go full frame at 24mm or less there is going to be a bad corner vignette at 35mm don't believe it is noticable at APS-C I used a 33mm and a 24mm most of this video... Full frame. 35mm APS-C is something like 23.4mm full frame equivalent. "if you mount a 50mm lens on an APS-C sensor camera such as the ILCE-6000, you'll get the same view as a 75mm lens on a full-frame camera (50mm x 1.5 = 75mm)." Haida online states the minimum focal length to use with their filter and even lists the filter thread size for all focal lengths. I really like that kind of useful information being listed. I hope they make a pro III with less color shift and possibly hard stops with help to prevent vignette, a half can produce some vignette. If Haida released that version I would assume a higher price, affordable options I have tried so far and even the Freewell V2 does not have hard stops. NiSi VND filters some of them have hard stops but costs more than I am up for spending. And the Kase filters I am also curious about.

Sir can it fits with 7 artisans 12 mm t2.9 cine lens
@sparkestudio6 ай бұрын
That is going to depend on the filter thread of that lens. Most lenses have a filter thread diameter on them written on the outer edge. I am stuck at a work camp out of town and won't have computer access for another 5 days or I would look it up. I have no interest in budget cine lenses and never ever used a cine lens yet. I am however considering IRIX lenses someday. Do I need a cine lens to make movies? Nope but for multiple camera setups cine lenses are made to be matched in color and image characteristics with one another.

I bought this filter and it's an absolute piece of garbage :( - I bought the 77mm filter thread one, and even trying it on a 24mm (full frame, 16mm APS-C equiv) lens that has a 55mm filter thread, it still has X pattern and dark corners in top right/bottom left. It's only useful for telephoto lenses which is very disappointing. It's also so loose, it's far too easy to accidentally adjust your ND and polarisation. 1/10 stars from me :( - I bought a Nisi truecolour one, which granted is a lot more expensive but that works beautifully without any of these issues.
@sparkestudio7 ай бұрын
Sucks about your bad experience, it wasn't even close to garbage.. i even bought a second one. i had a 23mm lens which yeah a 16mm equivalent is way wider than 23mm. I do wonder if your issue was with a step up ring being so wide? I had no issues during the making of this video and a 33mm is my other lens. Way better experience for me than even the freewell V2 except for what I stated and at the end I list the good and bad right at the very end of this and the good and bad of the freewell V2

@@sparkestudio I tried it on a 16mm (10mm APS-C equiv) with no step up ring, utterly unusable, like 30% of the image is X pattern. So I tried with a less wide lens, the 24mm (16mm APS-C), it's a 55 to 77mm adapter so it's very close to the lens, there is still a serious vignette. It's better going to 35mm (23mm equiv) but still has a visible vignette. Really bad ND filter in my opinion :( Seems you are too getting a vignette on that 23mm, do you have any wider lenses to try with? -- it's possible I got a bad copy as it's really bad.

@@DigiDriftZone i did get some vignette as I show in the sky... I had to redo part of the video cause I at first used the larger lens hood. Sadly from my experience with a VND vignette is going to happen... More or less depending on the filter and if set at max over level 5. What VDN was a good experience for you? Cause I believe you'll have vignette with all VNDs to some extent which is why I also recommend not to use it for photography. In my Batman video I believe I mostly used my 33mm lens and it turned out beautifully. The preview is all there and I end this video with more footage and the full movie is released any day now about 16 minutes of the 26 minutes run time is with the VND on... Nighttime shooting required the removal.

@@sparkestudio Yes, it seems to work better with 33mm (around 50mm full frame equiv), anything wider it gets progressively worse. I bought a NISI true colour 82mm which I am using with step up adapters with all my lenses and the results are near enough flawless, it's such a huge step up and also it's very tactile to use, it's very precise and well dampened - but it's1-4 stops and then you add a 4 stop to convert it to a 5-9 stops. I got mine from ali expres at half the price it retails for.
