The really sad part is that Tsukki's brother is actually a very good player, being the ace of a middle school team and shown when he's able to receive the ball straight into the basketball hoop. The Karasuno roster at that time was just so deep that even someone as skilled and passionate as him was relegated to not even suiting up during games, essentially backseated to practice squad. Tsukki's attitude of "if I don't really invest in it, I don't have to worry about being devastated if it doesn't work out" is pretty common, and a bit relatable. If I tell myself I wasn't that serious about it in the first place, failure has a much smaller impact.

Basically, Tsukkishima has a more realistic perspective for most people than anyone else in the team. Hinata, like the opposite, of course is the most anime-like fantasy. As a former volleyball player, no matter how talented you are, if there are players taller than you, you're not getting in the regulars (unless ur a libero).

Lol the fact that the character development is not over and not just Tsukki but literally EVERYONE is why Haikyuu is so good. It's a show about growth and the human spirit.

You are soooo good at understanding the characters (especially Tsukki from the beggining) so most of my points you talked about it, but I just loooove this ep so much not to say it nontheless 10:52 Mind you, volleyball players are generally very tall, even at their age, sure there is less body contact but I want to believe that he thought it was a safer sport because of Tsukki being there🥺🥺 Edit: you even mention it at the end, that's why I like your reactions so much 12:36 I understood all this better in the manga because Tsukki's problem wasn't so much that his brother lied to him, it was more anger with himself for always talking to Akiteru, his brother, like volleyball and Akiteru's position were the only thing that mattered to him(Tsukki) putting so much importance to volleyball, so in his eyes he made his brother lie and he regrets that, that's what he said lame to, himself. And seeing how his brother didn't acomplish anything despite his talents, since he used to be the ace he was actually good, but here Karasuno is a powerhouse, they have too many members, and there aren't many places at the bench, many mistake it as him not being on the team but he was and he went to practice and cheered, even if he was sad. And now, Tsukki is against his own little giant, just like his brother, that has the same position as him. And on the part about how his brother shouldn't be lying, as an older sister I totally understand him, it just hurts you even more than if you were only dissappointing yourself 15:14 A complete side note, notice how Hinata is seen playing with a ball at every moment with different parts of his body, just like old coach Ukai told him 16:36 honestly, it's great that he got people from other teams to teach him, not only for the emotional sense, because he can feel a little less pressure and all, but because there is no one in Karasuno that's good at blocking, so he actually needs someone else (I mean Kageyama is technically an all rounder but it's still better to learn from a MB) 19:45 And you are only at the start of season 2, when there is not only a lot of anime, but a looot of manga content as well, so imagine by the end how many characters you'll do anything for 22:49 I'm sooo happy you understood his brother, I mentioned it a bit above but something that many missunderstand a lot is thinking that his brother wasn't on the team, he was, that's why he had the jacket and had practice. But there are a certain amount of bench players allowed, he was the bench of the bench because Karasuno was a powerhouse back then, wich meant many many players, so even though he was good there were many good players, just like Sehijo and Date Tech, most of their cheering sections are players that aren't on the rooster, that's why Karasuo doesn't have a cheering section right now, all the players are part of the starters or bench. What I love, like you mentioned, is that even though he (Akiteru - Tsukki's brother) was clearly upset he kept going to practice and even support the team 27:01 I feel like as a kid he had sooo much passion for it, and he still loves the sport, that's why he couldn't resist going to Karasuno, deep down he wanted to keep playing, but he thought he was joining just a high school club, a bad high school club (remember that Karasuno fell off incredibly deep), he wasn't expecting a high competitive team. Besides, he is trying to protect himself, "if I say I don't like it, if I don't put effort in, if it's just a club, then when I innevitably lose it won't hurt" but of course deep down he still wants to play, he couldn't get rid of the love of the sport completely 36:06 Veeery interesting choice of word to not describe Yamaguchi!! Honestly, I'm impressed how many things you are getting right, of course the "coward" was sort of a coincidence, but the rest was spot on

In the manga it was portrayed how guilty Tsukki felt when he found out about his brother. He really idolized his brother and got really swept up with his success in volleyball when he was in middle school. He kept asking his brother about the volleyball, and when Tsukki found out his brother lied to him, he felt guilty and ashamed that he saw his brother only as a volleyball player - so much so that his brother felt he couldn't tell the truth. I understand why it was left out from the anime, but it explains further why Tsukki's feelings for volleyball are complicated.

Bokuto’s speech is so good. It’s not about trying to make the game your entire life from then on almost like a job - it’s about finding things in it that truly makes you happy, like winning or certain aspects of the game, and fame and glory (if that’s what you desire) will come accordingly when you aren’t so actively seeking them. But even still, sometimes the point is to have no point and just enjoy the present whether those things comes or not :). Life is too short to always look so far ahead and wonder “Why am I doing this?”
