Marc Tovar That's not what I think the video is trying to show. He's resistant to her approaches, I guess due to his jealousy or confusion about their situation (that I never am sure of, since the lyrics point towards the guy's own mental difficulties) The fire, I think, simulates how he lets himself burn instead of going with the girl, because he knows he and her wouldnt "make it" anyway. She obviously didnt want him to die.

In this particular instance, the jealousy stems from emotional trauma, that makes it difficult for him to accept the constant love and comfort from his SO. Eventually leading to self sabotage, which is what the fire depicts. She tried to help him, maybe even knowingly or unknowingly, but he burned himself, having trouble even accepting the olive branch of her outstretched hand at the end. Also, all the lyric meanings and inspirations are posted with the album, so what they mean is no secret to anyone who seeks it out.
