Ethiopia's long-distance track athlete Haile Gebrselassie won his first Olympic Gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Four years later, at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, he became the third man in history to successfully defend an Olympic 10,000 metres title. The Silver Medal winner, Paul Tegrat of Kenya, was a real gentleman. The winner just beat him out in the last split-second. Instead showing frustration, he immediately patted the winner on the shoulder, smilingly. IMO, that takes good sportsmanship.

@@dib_anbesa -- Haile Gebreselasie is no doubt a great athlete. My point was to emphasize the sportsmanship of his opponent. It reminds me of the 1972 world chess championship between Boris Spassky (USSR) and Bobby Fischer (US). After one game in which Fischer won, Boris Spassky immediately stood up, clapped his hands, and applauded Fischer for a game well-played. I admire sports competitors such as these.

They also knew all the participants on olympics are great players since they are selected from the best of the best. They also knew there are only 3 medals for the players of more than 20.
