@erickelly410710 жыл бұрын
Haile and other elite distance runners make running so quickly look easy because they typically run around 140 miles a week or around 20 miles a day on average. They have incredible endurance and are extremely efficient running machines. You have to have the right genetics to run like them.
@TheAfroman9910 жыл бұрын
To be honest your entirley correct, you have to have great genetics and a natural apt to running but think about it logically. If you took any teenager and made them run 10 miles daily for 10 years they would also become amazing runners. Genes help the entire way but you cant just cut science out completley. You run youll get good at running
@tracysweder222610 жыл бұрын
I am not so sure about the genetics... these Africans just walk and run much more from an early age on. If endurance was mostly genetic, why aren't they great at bicycling?
@TheAfroman9910 жыл бұрын
Because the culture of running is huge in africa. Im sure if they all loved cycling theyd be good at it. Plus most of ethiopia and kenya live below the poverty line all you need to run is your body you need a fast ass bike to do cycling.. lol not the smartest question there my friend

What we would consider poverty line. And yes they do. 2nd.) most runners from those areas id actually venture to say damn near all of them are not from the metropolitian or richer areas they were all poor including Haile

@gukobi10 жыл бұрын
For people who think treadmill running is cheating, when you run with high cadence the belt doesnt have enough time to sweep your legs backwards. High cadence and a mid foot strike at 1% incline is comparable to road running. Good runners know this.

@anUHkins Yes, Matt's description of Geb is spot-on. I was the one who asked Haile what pace he was running when he was at 4:50, and I think he took it as a challenge.
@erickelly410710 жыл бұрын
Running on a treadmill @ 1% incline is roughly equivalent to the effort it takes to run outdoors. I always put the incline to 1%"and warm-up @ 7:30 mile pace for the 1st mile and then increase speed to 7:00 and faster there after every mile. I typically do progression runs on the treadmill to make it less boring vs. staying at the exact same pace.

this event is described in one of the early portions of the book "run" by matt fitzgerald. Haille was promoting some gear for adidas (notice what hes wearing full-body), and talking about the gear while running at like 4:50 pace, but then goes off topic and works his way down to 4 minute pace, still talking with ease and with his brilliant stride lol, totally ignoring the adidas promoter

While he appears to float, straight on, his form has an awkward motion with his left arm. Supposedly from 12 miles a day running with books to and from school. I once heard a commentator saying how inefficient he was ... as he won the race of course. I was fortunate enough to meet the man and hang out with him for a couple of hours back in 1997 days before his World Championship in Athens. If you think he seems nice ... he's even nicer in person. @hunghua1309 I started running with a metronome and a playlist at 180. It took a while for my mind to get used to it on long slow runs. This summer I trained with some folks on the track for the first time. I found that during 800m repeats I was running more like 190 because the brain tries to "solve" the speed prob with faster cadence. I found that I could still do the same pace by dropping back down to 180 -- but it felt easier at 180. For whatever that is worth... :>

It's strange how 'perfect form' works isn't it! Haille doesn't have the supposed 'perfect form' due to his arms swinging as they do but you can't argue with his results, the same can be said for Paula Radcliffe and her 'bobble head' technique - yet she was one of the best female runners ever. I recon it's a psychological thing. The certain quirks they show are what happens when they work hard and that distracts them from any pain or discomfort, allowing them to focus and run hard.

Running on a treadmill is cheating. When you run on a treadmill you use less energy. You don't have to push the ground as in regular surface, it is just moving legs.
@Averagebum217 жыл бұрын
David Duarte That's nonsense. It doesn't work like that at all. The treadmill doesn't just move your legs backwards but your entire body, so you would still have to pull/push your entire body forwards to the same extent that the belt pulls your entire body backwards.
@RossKempOnYourMum017 жыл бұрын
Averagebum Bum is right, if you didn't propel your entire body forward with each stride then the momentum of the belt would propel your entire body backwards off the end of the treadmill.
