I did this while I was in CC and it helped me tremendously, especially wen I needed letters of recommendation. Some professors like to see initiative to go to office hours. Just do it! GREAT VIDEO, THX!

I’m not sure if it’s campus wide, but at least in the biology/medicine departments, there are lunchtime lectures with free food during the semesters. The CHS building has provided subway lunches. And the lectures are really interesting, and good to supplement classes and meet researchers to ask questions

I have never heard of this! That's pretty cool. Definitely not something offered by the Linguistics dept., at least not while I attended.

I’m currently work at UCLA as a postdoc, and I think my PI misses the undergrads during the summer! He knows he can give me a list of things he needs me to do on Monday morning on top of my experiments, and I’m already on it before he’s said anything. So he comes and chats about his current grant writing or his weekend, and loves when I ask for a hand with things (I have a bad track record with molecular biology, I’m a cell biologist/biochemist through and through), but he can’t really teach me much as anything I don’t know, he usually doesn’t know. He loves teaching our volunteer undergrads about science.

I’m transferring and taking my first quarter online! I’m nervous to go back to campus but can’t wait to feel apart of the school soon!

I agree with this!! I also went to UCLA and I regret not exploring more of UCLA and LA! I was a nursing major and I regret not taking other classes too! I also regret not doing the traditions. TBH I do not even know what the traditions are since I didn't do many lol. Also I regret not studying abroad and also regret majoring in nursing TBH kinda wish I did psych cuz I would have graduated in 2 years... Also a 2020 grad and spring 2020 was supposed to be lit but COVID :(

Sharing experiences from the other hemisphere : I couldn't agree more !!! The university is kind of a different world, there are so so many things to do, but you're "prohibited" to do it because of the grade, especially regarding the interdisciplinary and seeking others courses' disciplines.

Thanks for your insight, Heitor! Always good to hear from you.

Hey Hailey, I have a question. What's your opinion on transferring in the spring semester? I'm looking at transferring to a 4 year university for the spring 2022 semester in my state, and was wondering whether or not it's a good idea. Basically I wasn't really ready to start this fall for personal reasons, but would it be worth it to start in the spring as opposed to waiting until fall 2022?

I think if it's something that you are interested in then you should pursue it!

Hi Hailey, Thank you so much for all the advice! As an incoming linguistics major at UCLA, how do you recommend learning the IPA? Do you recommend learning it before taking ling20 or will I be at a disadvantage if I go in blind into that class? Thank you! I wish you well in grad school!
@HaileyDollarGoesToCollege3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, congrats on your acceptance! if I were you I wouldn't worry about it. You'll learn everything you need to in class. LING 20 is the foundation for the rest of your major, so make sure you put in your best effort. Good luck and thanks for your well wishes!

Hi Hailey, Thanks to you I got accepted into UCLA as a transfer and I’m also an Applied Linguistics major!!!! Thank you soo much for the information you have provided me and so many others. Quick question: is there a program that helps people who don’t have a car or are from far away get free metro cards or free bus passes? I’m also from NorCal Bay Area. Thanks again!!!!!

Hi Grant, I believe UCLA students can use the Big Blue Bus for free, but I am not 100% positive. You should be able to find this information on transporation.ucla.edu. Good luck this year!

So since you went to UCLA which is a top 50 school, do you really think it matters where you go to college? It just seems like everyone wants to go to the top universities.
@HaileyDollarGoesToCollege Жыл бұрын
I always say that any experience is what you make out of it. You can go to Harvard and bomb or you can go to community college and be amazing. Depends on the individual.
