I'm currently reading Peter Pan for the first time at the ripe old age of 32! I usually don't read classics, but 2016 has been my year of reading outside of my comfort zone. I'm really enjoying reading lots of new genres :)

I have read all these books except A Little Princess. I have read all Jane Austen books except Persuation which I had to read this month but there are so many books that I have that are lying unread that I am struggling to get to it. And Heidi was very popular when I was around 8 or 9 here in India because there used to be a cartoon about it and then of course I read the book after a few years. :)

The story of Heidi has always been a favorite of mine. I grew up watching the Shirley Temple version of the movie constantly. I still haven't picked up the book yet, but it is something I plan on doing when I'm not too busy with school.

"A little Princess" and "The Secret Garden" are just great books! Actually, The Secret Garden was the first novel I had read in my life, and it was quite the one that made me love reading. If I had to suggest anything, it would be Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women." The book is about sisters and how they can be quite different, fight all the time, but always stand beside each other. The book is quite comic too! Also Charlotte Brontë's "Jane Eyre" is quite amazing. I have read it by now four times beside studying it in school.

I read A Little Princess when I was in 4th grade (I'm in 5th now) and I absolutely loved it. I read The Secret Garden a month or two ago and I loved it too. Yesterday I got a book set of all 3 Frances Hodgeson Burnett books. I am really glad I found you, because your the first book youtuber that I have found that I like and that has similar interests.

It is now my goal to read a classic every month next year. I just checked my good reads and the closest thing to a classic I read this year was forever by Judy Blume.

I only read one classic this month and that was Heidi, I love that story

Next year to help read one each month, choose an easy December one like Miracle on 34th St or Letters From Father Christmas. Both are cute and quick reads.

Ooo I studied Peter Pan and The Secret Garden too for one of my classes this year, Peter Pan is definitely kinda creepy. We looked at disability and The Secret Garden and other texts too and it was really interesting learning how the characters were either cured or killed off. I loved reading them though, I shall have to take a photo and do the hashtag to show my other choices too!

bOI The Secret Garden is one of my all time favorite books. However it's the only classic I've ever finished. I got into reading in English 3 years ago, and 13 year old me was not ready for diving into classics in a foreign language! Luckily my English has improved SO much even though I've always done really well in school. After Christmas I'm going out to buy some more classics and try my best to read them. They have some beautiful hardcover editions, but you can also find a great amount of good classics for a really good price. I'm so hyped to dive into new generas, even though fantasy will probably always be my favorite. I'M JUST REALLY EXCITED AND THIS VIDEO GOT ME HYPED AHAHA sorry

I'm European and tbh Heidi is not important AT ALL here, most people might just know the figure (blond girl in the mountains??) but I wasn't even aware there's a book. On a plus note, I've read about 13 classics this year and am reading 2 more at the moment. It's been a very classic-y year for me, apparently :p 2 of my favourites of this year are The Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas), which took me ages but was such an amazing book, and And Then There Were None (Agatha Christie), of which I now understand why it's voted "the world's favourite Christie" because wow. Just wow.

Lol I haven't read even five classics in my life (I've only read les mis, the great gatsby, the wizard of oz & a christmas carol) but I do want to read more of them. haha the reason why is because I don't live in the usa or canada or the uk so I don't have to read those classics for school because I lived in the netherlands and I only had to read those dutch books i never liked or books like tfios and sarah's key for English so nope no classics. haha and then I also mainly read fantasy books

Ok I hate how all book KZbinrs stay away from religion and political stuff LIKE THOSE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS TO READ Why stay away from it. That is what READING IS ALL ABOUT... to Keep educating yourself.This is probably the 3rd time this week i have heard something "religious" Wise.. A comment about it's too blah blah blah or It provokes blah blah blah. It's WRITING THAT IS WHAT ITS FOR. Not that what she said about "Heidi" offends me but I am so sick of hearing how that's not what I like to read or yadyah anyways I enjoy trying to be optimistic with everything especially reading

@tracy29198 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from and to an extent I agree. I love books (well it's a play/movie but whatever) like Inherit the Wind that discuss religion's role in society but I think what Hailey means is that discussing is different than preaching which is the point where it loses its profundity. Sometimes books tell instead of show/convince when it comes to religion and politics. They don't usually take a step past to discuss morality and where we should get our morals from and why. Classics especially seem often to talk to people who are already convinced on a way of thinking and believing and living instead of going to a deeper level of thought. Does that make sense? I hope so 😛
