@The Phantom of George Wallace Your argument does not make any sense, restoring the monarchy would have meant for wilhelm to be in power and not hitler, there was never a "neutral" for him when it came to the nazis, in the beginning though he, like ANYONE else did not know what was about to unfold in Germany. You are completely fooled by war propaganda if you think anyone would have been able to see what is happening in 1930-36, enjoy your day. Then again, no English Speaking person will ever know what really went down in Germany, so what do you expect.
@emilybung5890
@emilybung5890 2 жыл бұрын
@The Phantom of George Wallace Yeah there we go, takes an American to tell you about your own history. I will say it again, you can study your books, you will still never know what it meant to live in 1900 Germany, let alone the rest of europe. We had the Peace Emperor, while the rest was playing war. When Hitler came around, the Germans already forgot about Wilhelm, there was no relevance to it. But WW2. Propaganda made it sound like he was part of the nazis, was a warmongerer before they existed etc. There is no point in trying to argue with someone that is part of rewriting history anyways.
@emilybung5890
@emilybung5890 2 жыл бұрын
@The Phantom of George Wallace PS: Noone knew what would unfold. It is pure ignorance and in that way dangerous propaganda to think that anyone let alone exiled Wilhelm would have known that there will be another ww, holocaust, mass persecution of opposition etc. Noone did until it happened. (except the actual nsdap conspirators who you should probably learn more about). This is exactly the kind of perception that led to marking Kaiser Wilhelm as a Nazi Conspirator and leads to his Image being torn TIL this day even here in Germany, it destroyed any sense for actual History, not the made believe. The sheer lack of understanding and consideration of Propaganda (WW1 and present) is the crux of the problem here.

My grandfather’s brothers served in the Kaiser’s army in WW1. My grandfather has emigrated to America before the war. Later, when Hitler came to power they were all disgusted. @grenzer45, as disgusted as they might have been when Hitler came to power, they actually admitted that they privately considered and looked up to the NSDAP ideas and program and actually envied their accomplishments. Wilhelm II was entirely enthused when Hitler defeated France according to plan and sent him a letter congratulating him. A lot of the hatred that the Royalty had for the Third Reich Officials must be looked at for what it is. If you grew up in Royalty and especially to be a figure like the "Kaiser", you were raised to believe you were the closest thing to the Divine, and that nothing and no-one else can ever compare. The Kaiser, just like Bismarck and even Frederick the Great, are Men who are largely a product of their era. It would only be natural that they would hold disdain for anyone not of the Junker Class or lineage in general, especially if they happen to surpass their own achievements.

What this video promotes is the truth. My Maternal Grandfather, an Italian & U. S. Citizen, with Dual Citizenship, was a U.S. Lt. Col. in WWI & WWII. Pop was the Nephew of Pope Pivs XII. Two of his brothers were in the German army in WWI. He met them on the battlefield. They shook hands, said hello and turned around to go back to their respective commands. He stated on multiples occasions that it wasn't the German people who wanted H.I.M. Kaiser Wihelm II to abdicate, but his hierarchy with the push of Great Britain & Woodrow Wilson of the United States. He wasn't the Monster painted by the Allies, but was caught up in a War that was a mistake. He wanted the war to end as soon as Austria got what it wanted in Serbia, but H.M. Franz Josef I of Austria-Hungary got greedy. Sir Winston Churchill was right. Had he stayed with diminished capacities as Kaiser, Adolf Hitler may never have come to power in Germany. He doesn't deserve the reputation he has had and re-evaluating him is definitely what historians need to do at this point in history. Thanks, Dr. G.

As a politican, the Kaiser wasnt great, he made big mistakes. He quickly fired Bismarck and he refused prolongation of the treaty with Russia in 1890. This lead to the fateful franco-russian alliance. He overestimated the power of European monarchs to prevent the war of 1914. During the war he allowed the military to take over political affairs. In 1918 he did not try to remain at least King of Prussia and fled to the Netherlands. But internally he made peace with the marxist social democrats. Under his rule, administration of Prussia and Germany was excellent because it helped to modernize Germany in education and technics. But this lead to fears of the other powers that Germany was too powerful and had to be reduced harshly...

The fight that the Germans struggled for in WW1 and WW2 was aimed at freeing Europe from British Imperialism and giving a new era of Peace, Stability and Glorification of Europe. Actually, it can come back. Remember, the Prussian ruling titles were a forced abdication by the allies after the war. Mainly pushed by King George IV (4). Gotta love the family love between the British and Germans. A lot of Prussians and Germans believe that the treaty was unfair and cost Germany land loss of the old Prussian Territories. Thus the reason why Hitler attacked Poland and the lower parts of Russia during WWII. Trying to get the old Prussian land back by force. Not agreeing with Hitler at all, but people need to understand that the forced abdication of Prussia is what caused a multitude of issues to include the rise of Hitler. Kaiser Wilhelm II was allowed to keep the German Constitutional Monarchy titles, but he decided to screw the entire family over and turn those over as well. However, the Prussian house can still come into power, but will not without the public support. A force abdication can be reversed under special circumstances.

@Wild Wolf, it's very true. Unfortunately many views, both good and bad, are very misplaced about where the last Kaiser's place in history is... His heart was in the right place and he wanted all the best for Germany and tried very much to avoid war and maintain peace at all costs. What costed him everything though was his instability in thoughts and decisions, somehow he also thought that the English would somehow just see his ways and eventually come around to agreeing with his vision and ambitions, along with some speeches he made which exposed things at times in which it got International Attention that questioned his viability as a leader. If he just stuck to Bismarck's plan and waiting for his chance to revel in the Glory after Bismarck's passing, all would have been great, and he would have Immortalized himself as a great figure, even if he still would have lost the war.

I am French and i was about to cry, i emotionally was driven near the tears. I say it, we really messed with post-ww1, we did the bad things that led to the next war ; what have we done, we fools ? My admiration means nothing to the world, but he did so much for the world, and that is why we should never forget him, and the rehabilitation must be done in our lands, these who decided to ruin germany's greatness and his future for some foolish reasons. I don't hate my country, but i am ashamed of what we done when i learn the history we didn't learn in school (and we learn few...and badly), Versailles's Treaty, and what came after...is our fault. May one day the throne be occupied and the german people going back to reason and sing in chorus "Heil dir im Siegerkranz". May i am actually hill and a victim of a trauma, over-interpreting 1871's defeat, or may am i just wise and i think clear, but i'll keep loving this old and good Germany that we learned to hate as a devil when we were kids and that we learned, by ourselves, to love after being freed from propaganda and learning the truth. Our countries, ruined themselves, and now i think : we must, one day, bring good and wise monarchs to rule us, meaning actually, leading us to a proper and great future. Humanity will not perish as long as long as peoples like the Kaiser are here, but where are they now ?!

As a german monarchy-sympathiser, i have to say: May all those who finally understood how the Kaiser really was, march alongside the Hohenzollerns. My loyalty only goes to them, as long as they don't fail to rule. One day, the true spirit of germany shall rise like a pheonix from the ashes and bring us again an place in the sun, peace, prosperity and strength, to defend ourselves if needed. Germans have been so utterly wronged... A toast to all those who suffered, died and the soldiers at the fronts of WW1. We have suffered enough. The german empire shall arise again. As a mostly neutral, but strong state.

True true, but doesn't really matter anymore. Look at the youths of Germany nowadays...the demographic development, and of course look at the development in France or the UK too. These people will be gone before the end of the century. Also the US and the other major countries are developing fast in a different route. We're heading for a change of times and many people won't like it but it is inevitable. What you won't see again in the future is this old German spirit of the prosperous and dynamically evolving German empire. Parts of it may have survived all catastrophies of the 20th century, but now it's disappearing for good as the demographics change.

It is time for Justice to be Done to another wronged Ruler and his family. This kindly man who is much aligned and treated badly because of the position he held and some misguided veiws that would be forgiven in others wasa kind,thoughtful man. He had been promised by his generals that the war would last long. While he worked for peace even at the last minute his generals and ministers were supporting the Austrians in the aim to go to war with Serbia. The men that caused it got of scot free and Hindenburg even became President of the Weimar Republic then installed Hitler as chancellor something the Kaiser would never have done. In the finish even the Kaiser was interned by Hitler.

By 1914 Europe had divided itself into two power blocks. A circumstance often blamed on Berlin and especially on Wilhelm II. Two powerful "blocks": Germany/Austria-Hungary in a Dual Alliance (with the "sorta"-partner Italy joining later), and on the other side France/Russia in a military alliance with their "sorta"-partner GB. These two blocks are often conflated or talked about as being the effects of the same logic and reasoning, or even more fallacious, that the first logically lead to the second (causation). Only one was a result of necessity. The other was voluntary, without a real need. "However, the impact of these decisions [edit for clarification: effects of the Russo-Ottoman War of 1878] had serious consequences on German-Russian relations, as Tsarist officials blamed Germany for allowing England and Austria-Hungary to win major concessions at the Congress (edit: more on that later). And despite a long-standing friendship, the Tsar threatened a war of retaliation against Germany. This sudden crisis helped solidify the growing close relations between Germany and Austria-Hungary, and in October 1879, a defensive alliance was signed by the two German powers. This would prove to be the first alliance in the slow build-up of tensions leading to World War I." AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Kenneth Allen Shafer for the Master of Arts in History presented June 29, 1989. Title: The Congress of Berlin of 1878: Its Origins and Consequences *Bismarck had to act because of a specifically voiced threat (note: no "feelings" involved).* There was no choice. Re. the second "block": Some 20 years after her ill-fated attempt to torpedo Bismarck's German unification process with a preventive war (aka "war of choice") in 1870, the emotions caused by this war had died down somewhat, and Paris was given a "test" by Berlin's new management (Wilhelm/Caprivi): the choice between better relations with Germany (aka "rapprochement") as evidenced by a "New Course" in Berlin after 1890, or expanding her own power by an alliance with another European empire. Paris' choice was not quite unexpected. According to the "101 rules of empire building", states have the possibility to increase their power by alliances. And that is what Paris did the minute they were "released" from their political isolation. No sooner than they had found their "new friends" in St Petersburg, and the new power it afforded, than Paris indulged in a more confrontational course against British expansionism, including threats of war, in SE Asia (see 1893). The treaties made by Bismarck were not aimed at any expansion nor did it have an aggressive intent. Wilhelm took over these treaties in 1888 because they already existed. After 1890, Wilhelm II did not extend the Reinsurance Treaty because he wanted better relations with all neighbors: Russia, France and GB. The Reinsurance Treaty had stood in the way of better relations because it isolated France. Wilhelm ended this isolation hoping it would result in a "new course" (under Caprivi) with "simplified/better relations". Unlike the events leading to the Dual Alliance between Germany and Austria-Hungary in 1878, France/Russia were not threatened by the "Neuer Kurs" (Caprivi). The often claimed "German threat" by "nasty Wilhelm" was simply a convenient smokescreen for Paris/St Petersburg to hide their real intentions (ulterior motive). *So why did they ally, stating a very specific course of action for the event of an (entirely fictional since never threatened) "German/A-H mobilisation"?* Because such an alliance was "de facto" also directed against GB/Empire, and such mobilisations were only plausible in the event of an Anglo-German Alliance resulting due to better understanding between London and Berlin (potentially possible after a good start offered by the Helgoland-Zanzibar Treaty in 1890). Fact? Wilhelm never threatened either France nor Russia, but he did hope for a deal or an accord of sorts between Berlin and London, which aroused suspicion in Paris/St Petersburg. Christopher Clark devotes an entire chapter (with sources) as to how this unfolded in his book Sleepwalkers.

@STUDIO BENCIVENGA Marcus Bencivenga It would be quite lacking in prudence to claim that all other leaders after the Kaiser were "traitors"... For the most part, the only people who hold these views are Royalty descendants or those with serious love for Protestant values, and/or who had deep financial ties and connections to the tribe that loves to eat bagels, and the reason for the Empire and the War is in large part due to how they backstabbed Imperial Germany. This lesson was learned quite well, and it's the reason for what took place after the end of the Weimar Republic... The only reason that leader after Weimar is often despised so much is because many of the Prussian Princes both had envy but also despised how the bagel eaters were dealt with, because they intended on keeping cordial ties and their wealth they gained from the bagel eaters... The Third Reich also excelled MARVELOUSLY in its approach with how it communicated with and united the people, but also excelled in the Expression of the Prussian Spirit far more than even during the Imperial period. They brought back the beautiful glory and legacy of Pagan Spirit. Protestantism is not a good thing for Europe... We are meant to be Pagans. I have a strong belief your views are largely formed on the basis of Protestant biases, especially because of influences Prussia had in Latin America at one point.

His (Kaiser Wilhelm’s) biggest mistake & he wasn’t alone in Germany at the time, was to accede to build a High Seas Fleet to rival & challenge the Royal Navy’s supremacy at sea & hence then jeopardize the continued security & well-being of the British Empire at the time! If Wilhelm only hadn’t authorized the naval arms race & created a fleet to seriously challenge the Royal Navy, then Britain almost certainly wouldn’t have probably fought the First World War. The ‘Entente Cordialle (1904)’ between France & Britain, almost certainly would not have taken place, but the anti-British rhetoric & propaganda, so prevalent in Germany after 1888 that continued to contaminate good relations between the two countries, was mainly done at his behest!
@prussiansocietyofamerica
@prussiansocietyofamerica 3 жыл бұрын
The Oracle Rules, this is true... There was a necessity to upgrade and improve the Naval fleet for Imperial Germany to increase trade, but unfortunately the Kaiser became a little more subjective in his interest behind the Navy and put too much priority to build it up and rival that of England's. Although the Kaiser did mean best for Germany, Europe and in relations with the UK, he tried avoiding war, but the one thing he did ignore was the quota that the English demanded. Somehow he just believed naively that the English would come around to see his point of view and allow him to have his way, but it is well documented that this would never be the case! Either way though, I think a war would have likely broken out sooner or later with the UK, but the situation with rivaling the Naval Forces did not help whatsoever.

@@prussiansocietyofamerica: PSA, Hi & thank you for your interesting & insightful response. I have to disagree with one aspect on what you had stated therein, namely, that in your opinion, war would have still, inevitably broken out between Imperial Germany & the British Empire, sometime after 1914, should the course of actual history, have taken then another route! While I have to agree that there was ample evidence around to suggest that this could have then actually occurred, however, I also tend to believe that if there had then been closer contact between the military, trade & industry chiefs in both countries, as perhaps in similar circumstances that there would now likely be in this day & age, then I am sure that history would have been different! If people such as Alfred von Tirpitz & Sir John (Jackie) Fisher & their respective naval & defence staffs & other senior figures from Foreign Affairs, Trade, Industry & Finance sectors of each country’s economy & governments had actually sat down together, & in previous years to war breaking out in 1914, & then held serious & meaningful discussions, to diffuse or prevent the actual conditions & circumstances of leading up to the events of 1914 that subsequently had kindled then, the resulting historical tragedy of the First World War. This catastrophe may (& perhaps only may...?!) have really then been avoided, or at least mitigated its worst effects or the extreme extent of it, by taking these logical steps, which apparently had not then shamefully been done & woefully, it had apparently been deemed, as being not then possible or even appropriate to attempt to do at that time! Particularly, if the onerous & contentious issue of German naval expansion could have been allayed & amicably settled, then other detrimental things could have perhaps been avoided & the confrontation might have then been averted altogether! Such collaborative actions, could then have supported & encouraged further cooperation & more cordial & closer relations between both parties! After all, during the 18th & 19th Centuries up till 1890, international relations between Britain & Prussia (& afterwards Imperial Germany) had always been cordial & business-like, even if it was never considered to have been any closer than that. Through the Royal House of Hanover, Britain had also direct connections with the Duchy (Elector) of Hanover both in terms of lands & Royal connections with both the German Confederation of the time & also the then Kingdom of Prussia (In example, the Kaiser’s mother, Victoria, the Princess Royal was Queen Victoria’s & Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha’s eldest daughter). Many Hanoverians, Brunswickers & other Germans from the regions of Lower Saxony then settled in England or in its North American & other colonies of its empire! The British Army had many German regiments in it during the 18th & 19th Centuries too! The renowned King’s Own German Legion (KGL - Koeniglich Deutscher Legion, then based from 1803 till 1816 at barracks or camps, both at Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex & Weymouth, Dorset in England, as well as at Tullamore in County Offaly, Leinster, Ireland, yet all these soldiers had been originally recruited from North German towns & cities like Hanover, Paderborn, Brunswick/Braunschweig, Minden, Bielefeld, Osnabrueck, Lueneburg, Bremen & others there.) fought with great valour & distinction during the Peninsular War & at Waterloo & elsewhere too, in the Duke of Wellington’s & other Campaigns during the French Revolutionary & Napoleonic Wars. In total, almost 30,000 men (Germans, mainly from the Duchy of Hanover) then served in the KGL, as part of the British Army. In those days too, Germans were then usually regarded very positively by the British public-at-large, as close & dependable friends & allies! How badly things sometimes change in reality?!! Hindsight is also always such an easy way of correcting others’ errors effortlessly & a wonderful thing to engage in, but to naval-gaze, isn’t it?!!
