After a one night stay at Destruction Bay Lodge RV Park, our Fantasy RV Alaska Group continues our journey south as we head to Haines, AK. As we pull out of the park, we follow our friends Dave and Dianne. After a few hours of beautiful scenery, we stop for lunch at The Roadhouse Cafe. As we continue on our way, we eventually come to the Alaska/Canada border. The line of travelers waiting to come into Canada from Alaska was pretty long. We were pleasantly surprised how quickly we made through our checkpoint in the opposite direction.
In Haines we stayed at the Haines Hitch-Up RV Park. This was a very nice, clean, and spacious campground. There was a very nice walking path across the road on the back side of the campground where Zoey liked to go for some exercise.
The following day we drove our vehicles just a few miles to the marina where we boarded a tour boat for a wildlife cruise with a final destination of Juneau, AK. Along the way we saw multiple whales, eagles, and sea lions. Not to mention some of the most beautiful scenery one could ever imagine.
There was plenty of people walking the shops in Juneau as a massive cruise ship (Quantum of The Seas) was in the port. We toured the town for a couple hours and invested in some jewelry for Lynn before our group boarded a bus which took us to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The weather was a little rainy all day and it really picked up as we arrived at the Visitor Center which prevented us from hiking down to the foot of the glacier to get a closer look. However, there was plenty to see inside the center to learn more about the glacier.
The very next day our group went back to the Haines Marina and boarded the very same boat. Today's destination is Skagway. This was a pretty long day of travel. We left the marina at 6:45 AM and returned at 9:00 PM. Along the way we again see some more whales and other wildlife. Never gets old! While in Skagway we toured the quaint little town, had some breakfast at a busy little restaurant, and the big event of the day was a spectacular ride aboard the White Pass Train.
After the train ride, we walked back toward the marina and stopped at a very nice restaurant for dinner with our friends Dan, Deb, and Ron. The restaurant featured delicious, seafood and oysters. Ron, being a connoisseur of fine dining, gives Lynn a demonstration of the proper way to eat an oyster. The rest of us just watched and provided commentary. It was HILLARIOUS!
After dinner we boarded the tour boat for our return journey to Haines. Zoey was anxiously awaiting our arrival. After we took Zoey for a walk, it was time to hit the sack for a good night sleep before we hit the road the next day headed for one night stays in Whitehorse, YT; Nugget City, YT; and Dease Lake, BC, before arriving for a two night stay in Stewart, BC which borders Hyder, AK.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
