The trip from Tok to Valdez was 253 miles. After we traveled for a few hours, we decided to stop at a pull-out to stretch our legs, take Zoey for a walk, and grab a little lunch with Dave and Dianne. As the ladies prepared lunch, Dave and I noticed some fishermen wading in a stream nearby so we walked over to see if they were having any luck. They had 3 salmon on a stringer and were expecting to add more.
Snow covered mountains come into view as we get closer to Valdez. The scenery is spectacular with streams, and waterfalls right near the roadside.
About 18 miles before we get to Valdez we stopped to get some pictures of Bridal Veil Falls which is a 600 ft. waterfall adjacent to the highway.
Our group stayed at Eagle's Rest RV Park in Valdez. The park is right across the street from the marina. The owners, and camp hosts of the park are Jeff & Laura Saxe. Jeff & Laura were amazing hosts, they even grilled salmon for the entire campground one evening. It was delicious!
The first full day in Valdez was a free day for our group so Lynn and I explored the area. We went to the Solomon Fish Hatchery but there wasn't much going on there. We traveled down a dirt road past the Valdez airport and found Glacier View Park.
Later in the day we took a Jeep ride in the mountains nearby. Jeff, our camp host, gave us directions on how to get to the trail. Our friends Dave & Dianne, and Dan & Deb joined us also as we did a little exploring. The mountains were a lush green, and snow melt was still creating some beautiful water falls and streams. We always enjoy the adventure of exploring a new location with our off-road vehicles and especially when we are joined by our friends.
The next day our group took a tour boat cruise which took us to see the majestic water of Prince William Sound. Along the way we saw Puffins, Sea Otters, Sea Lions, Porpoises and Whales before reaching our main attraction which was Meares Glacier. The tour guide did a fantastic job filling us in on all the details of the things we saw along the way. She was very informative without being boring like some tour guides can be. The tour lasted all day. They served us lunch, dinner and a few snacks along the way.
In our next episode, our Fantasy RV Tour to Alaska continues as we travel to Palmer and then to Seward where Lynn and I went on a paddleboarding tour at the base of Bear Glacier with "Liquid Adventures". It was the highlight of our trip! The tour was so exciting, I have already posted a separate video of it on my channel. Here's the link: • SUP Bear Glacier Alask...
