This is one of better reviews I've ever seen. The way you mix good organisation and organic, live performance is great. And I love the "cons" section. :)

Thanks for the hilarious introduction of my game. I love your "camera on the shoulder" way of filming. It gives a war correspondent feel to the review :-) Sorry to be late in commenting: it seems my radar missed that post. Cheers!

OK: I watched the last 30 minutes running on my eliptic machine and almost fell down when I reached the Final thoughts segment. I am so happy that you enjoy the game so much, and appreciate everything beneath the surface. I put my all in that life project, but the magic occured with all that other people I met injected in the game. With B&T behind me, the bar is really high for a next game design. But listening to what you say, maybe I have a shot. Heartfelt thanks :-)

Hey there! Thanks for responding! I am SO glad to have played this game this year. It's totally clear that you put all your expertise and knowledge and passion into it. And kudos to all the people who helped you, man! Thanks! Can't wait for what your next game is. :)

Great video, Tim! It is a delight to hear your thoughts on games. I burst out laughing at the comment of “slipping into the seat of an 18th century Aston Martin”! Brilliant. I bought this game for the beautiful map and historically-specific units and place names but I became daunted in learning it by the novelty of the system. Now I just need to think of it as a fine tuned (but historically accurate) sports car. You’ve given me the courage to get into it. Thanks!

HEY! How ya doing? Always loving hearing from you. I hope you like this game, too. Definitely let me know. The more I play it, the more I appreciate it. I've learned that the designer has one game (this one) to his credit, and he's absolutely immersed in the French Indian war and knows it back and forth. It's definitely worth mustering the courage to learn. Take care!

Yeah, where are all the Market Garden games at? 😜 I’ve mentioned before, 18th century is my fave, French Indian War in particular so I snap up everything. Even for game systems I don’t particularly like, I love them if they cover the FIW. I’m not super keen on block games but my lovely bride and I enjoy Wilderness Empires by Worthington. I wasn’t a huge fan of the States of Siege games, but I like Empires in America. Wilderness War is a classic, along with Washington’s War it’s “comfort food” for me. I have somehow not opened Bayonets & Tomahawks yet, but I am very pleased to hear your good opinion of it, as I think our tastes run very similar. Thanks for the review buddy! 👍🏻

Heya! I definitely thought of you when i was playing it (you'd mentioned before you had it on shelf waiting...) I was really immersed in this one, I gotta say... I'm very interested, because I haven't played Wilderness War, what *you* think of it in comparison when you get a chance to try it. You can provide the comparison that I can't for people. Rock on!

Excellent review as always. How heavy do you consider it and how long does it take in which player count?

Thanks! To answer your question, it's (to me) a medium weight game... using GMT games as a comparison, I'd say it's more complex than Twilight Struggle or Labyrinth, less complex than most COIN games or the Dark Summer series. Hope that helps. Time wise, I've only played the two player version (it seems best at that to me), and it took about 2 hours for the first (single year campaign), and ... dang, almost five hours for the full campaign. BUT... I tend to play leisurely and not entirely optimally, so I would guess that a saavy pair of wargamers could play the single year campaign in an hour and a half or so. The flow of play is very smooth, especially with all the helper sheets and such. Thanks!

great review. not interested in the history depicted, but i hope they bring the system to other historical conflicts. i, however, do not agree with your calling nevsky's battle system complex. i actually find it very streamlined but very different like this game, so it may take a while for some to wrap their heads around it.
