Isn't it amazing how this how "natural" hair journey has come full circle? I never went natural, been that all my life so I never had any tips for anyone and was left out of that "movement". But with the boom and explosion that happened with going natural and the natural hair revolution, it all came right back to our grandmother's grease and water lol. My west indian grandmother had fine naturally curly hair and no greys! She used water and blue magic until she passed in 2012 and her hair was always very well kept, beautiful and healthy. God bless her and all of the beautiful women out here in the world showing off their natural crowns :)

The issue people were having with hair grease is the fact that you have to use a sulfate shampoo to wash it out. So you know at the early start of natural hair youtube, they were promoting the curly girl method and using non sulfate based shampoo. Hence grease became public enemy #1.

Check out Curly Chemist. She's a formally educated Master Chemist who recently made a vid on hair grease. She specifically says that sulfates, though effective, are not REQUIRED to remove grease. I stopped deep conditioning years ago it's another gimmick and a time waster. I don't need to add an extra 30 to 45 minutes extra to my already long routine. I think people who stopped using grease probably need it because their hair is always chronically dry and starving for moisture. Grease makes it so you don't need to deep condition. A quick condition is fine.

I encourage everyone to look back at how their hair was before all of this hoopla and just simplify it like that. The deep conditioning and oil treatments and all these other treatments were for special situations. Not every time you washed your hair. Keep things simplified and your hair is great.

Oils dry my hair out. I use rosewater, blue magic and Hawaiian silky. I've added wearing a plastic cap on my hair at night to keep the pillows clean and my hair moisturized. I also keep my hair in twists. Loving my hair texture now. The key is never to let it get dry. I use neutrogena anti-residue shampoo once a month.

I've tried every natural hair product is Sally's, Target, Ulta...including the infamous Deva Curl brand.. nothing works for my hair. Everything makes my hair extremely dry and brittle. Just started using hair grease last week. My hair already feels better.

Sound like you need to use just vaseline 100% white petrolatum skin protectant it moisturizes the hair and seal. It helps your hair not shed. Ever body hair can't take all those ingredients. My daughter had hair to her waist with vaseline when my mother was doing her hair and when I started using other products her hair started falling out. Now I'm back to using vaseline for about 5 months now her hair went from neck length to middle of her back now and it's very thick. I just finished using vaseline on my hair. I've started back using it for past 3 months and it's filled in my hair in the top and it's a lot thicker and it's now growing longer. Put your hair in a protective style and only wash it every 1-2 weeks with aussie 7N1 shampoo and aussie miracle moist conditioner it works wonders even on my daughters 4c hair. I have used Dax and blue magic and it's great for some but vaseline first in the beginning is better. I hope you try this and it works for you. By the way my aunt used this on my cousins hair and up until they were teenagers they sit on their hair and she also put a little baby oil with the vaseline and they had long thick braids💕

I won't put down the natural hair movement because it thought me to love and really know how to take care of my hair. But I did waste money and tried a looooootttt of expensive products that made my hair dry or didn't give slip. I now make my own hair products with ayurvedic herbs and my hair is really thick now. Only thing is that I still lack in length retention so I want to incorporate greasing my ends.

Yes yes, hair grease as a child. My mom used blue magic and Dax alternating between the two. My hair was always braided , but it was thick and extremely long. I still use a natural grease or pure lanolin in solid form but I do use a leave in conditioners times when using my grease. I use grease along side my staple natural hair products and DIY flax seed gel, and oils. My hair is coming back and plus that’s how I maintain my daughters hair.

I use Blue Magic to seal and Sulfur 8 to grease my scalp. I never seen Dax in person before and never saw it used growing up, but I want to try it but it's hard to find in the East Coast! I love me some grease! It's understandable that we take it for granted as kids because it's not like we had a choice in what was used on our hair, but it's sad how as adults a lot of us just stopped using it and forgot how great it is. It's literally designed for our hair and has been used by our ancestors! Our hair needs moisture to thrive, grease as a sealant does just that, hence is why by using it, our hair thrives and grows stronger, healthier, and softer. It's a perfect science ❤️.

It's amazing how many of our mothers used DAX on our hair. 😊 I recently got tired of using product after product so I finally ordered DAX online a month ago. Yes, I use anything that my hair loves and the first being hair grease at home my mom would use primarily Blue Magic or Ultra Sheen, my grandmother would use sulfur 8 so I'm accustomed to all 3. I still from time to time use Blue Magic. People fail to realize that not only was it the products our parents had accessible go them, it was also either a weekly routine or so to get your hair washed, greased, styled and most parents were not lighthanded in the process but that's what we now call scalp and head messages. They helped our healthy hair growth during our youth.

You literally had the same regimen as me. My mum used VO5 shampoo and conditioner. My mom used to do the exact same thing! Shoot - now that we're all home and can't go to the hair salon, I think I'm going to wash and braid my hair the exact same way - LOL! The down side for me, is that when the hair drys up, it becomes tighter and sometimes gives me a headache. By the way, I used Dax back in the day, as well. It definitely had something to do with my hair growing long, too. In fact, I may want to get it again. This brought back some really nice memories of when my Mom did my hair when I was a kid!! There is nothing like the good old fashion hair grease. I don't think it did any damage to our hair and our hair grew. These days your hair fall out breaks, you edges get damaged and you keep switching from one hair product to another. Not to mention the expense.

I think that it was a ploy to get us to buy their collection of products which really were not all it promised to do to our hair...before we knew it..so much dollars were spent needlessly for the damages that some of these new fangled products caused. I am so happy to see us go back to what worked for our hair..and the products delivered its promises. Thank you for sharing the real truth about Dax. I was a Blue Magic user also.
