Awww, poor thang.... you are too nice lol! Her finished photo looked like an 80's hot comb press I used to give my girlfriends in high school! I thank God every day for going to a predominantly black high school, because I started learning in my teens about black girl hair..... (thank you, thank you lol) I almost died when you showed the paddle brush, that she started FROM THE TOP DOWN! stop the madness!! Nope, you did the right thing, no tip. (T-to, I-insure, P-proper, S-service) no ma'am.... you did not receive proper service lol! So, you go ahead and stop feeling bad about that. We do not reward bad behavior. But, them curls now girl! Ca-yuuuuute!

I’m getting heart failure listening to this story. I had an experience similar to this that got stopped early by my mom (natural all my life) and I only needed my ends cut and my hair was already washed and straightened. We went in and the lady said my hair needed to be wet to cut and we walked straight out. No need to test.

I used to work at a full service salon/spa in as the front desk manager and as a licensed massage therapist. There were so many times that I would run to the back to ask if there was a stylist (all white women) that was comfortable/good with ethnic hair since a client was looking to come in. I would mostly be met with either blank stares or outright panic since none of them wanted to say they couldn't do it in front of the master stylist (one of the owners of the business). D was the only one that was confident in her abilities, but she had been doing hair for 30 years and to sit in her chair was a minimum of $60. One time, a newer stylist (let's call her M) stepped up and while the client was happy with her work in the salon, she ended up calling in the next morning to complain. M had given her uneven layers and just made a hatchet job of her hair and this client couldn't figure out how it had looked good in the salon but looked so bad at home. D had me schedule the appointment with her (for free) and block out M's schedule during that time and made M watch/assist in the redo so that she could see what she did wrong. I've been saying it for over a decade now, hair schools need to focus teaching more on differing types of hair. If I paid to learn how to be a cosmetologist and couldn't service an entire population of people because it was never covered I would be pissed off.

I have curly hair, not nearly as curly as yours though(around 2b-2c) and when I was younger my hair used to be shorter and curlier. I went to a salon and the stylist just happened to not know how to cut curly hair, so she just straightened my hair and then cut it. Ehhhhhhh...it didn't ruin my hair, it just came out uneven once it curled up again. I literally cannot imagine how many stylists don't know how to style hair in the 4's range like yours!

White girl here. I've lived in 13 states ( military) and NEVER found a white girl who could work on my hair. Even so called curly specialist.....fail. One day I had it after another bad curly cut I decided why not go to a black salon - went on and almost cried tears of joy She felt my hair , explained back to me what I already knew. Girls hair is very thick, ringlets, lose curls and tight curls. Basically my curl pattern is from one end or the scale to the other. She told me , not to use " White girls hair products" my hair is some kind of mutation haha I also got the comments about my hair from strangers...assholes. Its been about 10 years now and I haven't been back to any White salon. Truth is. You know when you know.
