Most of those box dyes say that you shouldn’t use it for pre colored hair. They’re largely meant for virgin hair, so they only have directions for virgin hair. They’ll also have a root touch up process, when you do the roots and then just pull the extra through the lengths at the end to touch up the color.
@BlackRainbow84 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's why with the colour chart on the back it says something like 'your natural colour' along with a result photo.

Instead of a crazy big directions booklet, hair dye companies could start utilizing QR codes for directions. It would be relatively easy for them to post directions for different hair situations online, and so beneficial to the customer. They could even sell more products from it, stuff people don’t know they need, like a bleach kit or extra dye.
@northwest1760 Жыл бұрын
… they might already do that. But ya’ know, if the don’t.
@TwoBs Жыл бұрын
I’ve a hunch that the types of people that don’t bother going over an instruction booklet aren’t going to be the types to bother scanning a QR code and skimming through a page to read much. Nice idea, but so many QR codes get put on so many products that really don’t need it to where most just outright ignore/overlook them.

In the 80s there was a tint that allegedly washed out again after 2-3 hair washes. At that time I had never dyed my hair, but a few weeks before I got a new perm. It was carnival, and I thought to myself "hey, a completely different hair color would be cool". Nothing can go wrong with the tint. But I still had very light blond hair at the time, and maybe I shouldn't have reached for black. 🤣 A few weeks later, not even the hairdresser got the black color out all at once. For four weeks I walked around with red hair until he made a second attempt. Since then, I've been VERY skeptical about advertising promises. 🤣

Isn't is a shame when otherwise pretty girls glue those things on. I know a girl whose lashes never grew back at all from all the glue ripping out lashes and clogging the ducts. She ended up getting pink eye from the glue. It wasn't from the traditional way of people getting pink eye from body fluids either, it was literally from the lash glue made in China. Now she has no choice to wear false lashes and she gets them sewed in at a plastic surgeon.

@mydogeatspuke Жыл бұрын
The ones that expand the pigment molecules or something, and you have to rinse for like 20 minutes with the windows wide open because it stinks like rotten eggs? Yes! They work amazingly on dyes that use developers. You do need a few days spare with nothing else to do though so you can let it build back up some of the natural oils and then use something to cover the ugly it leaves behind. They say in the instructions not to use anything with a developer for however long after, I feel like weeks, because it can reactivate the colour that was "removed." I've seen some people's hair have the colour return whilst they're rinsing the stuff out too which was fascinating.

@mydogeatspuke Жыл бұрын
@@BlackRainbow84 so your blonde underneath was stained by the red in the purple dye. Which is common. The easiest way to get that darker wine red ish color is actually to put bright red on top of natural brunette. Thats how I've been doing my hair for the last 10 years or so haha. But no, it will absolutely not work over any unnatural pigments, unless those dye pigments are also red.

I have a non-color related question. Due to a health concern I experienced 5 hours of brain radiation in one session. Of course my hair was affected. Would you suggest a hair mask type or brand that might be beneficial? My hair was always straight but now the damage has made it 'wirey' - for lack of a better word. Somewhere between straight and frizzy. (I had an appointment to have my head shaved prior to Gamma Knife Radiation to avoid the waiting for my hair to fall out but my Neurosurgeon and Radiology Oncologist advised I would not lose all my hair. I should have asked more questions. About half my hair fell out and grew back totally different.) I also have Old Lady hair - I am 72. I massage Argan Oil into my hair after every shampoo - my hair below my shoulder blades. I searched and couldn't find an email on your Home or About page. Thank you for your time. (I am in the USA.)

This past April, I underwent 10 sessions of targeted radiation due to metastatic malignant melanoma diagnosis. I had a craniotomy due to a stroke in Feb. and then immunotherapy treatments. About a week later, I started losing my hair which I was aware of. Everything fell out except for back if my head where it thinned out. I felt like I had a supermullet. I had some inching and redness. I actually just used Jergens Ultra Healing. My hair was waist length, blonde and bone straight. I have a couple of inches of medium blonde, wavy new growth with a white patch where it radiation was most concentrated on. I have a funky pixie cut. While it was growing out, I found a YB video series from "TheHairGuruCarla" who's clientele are black women either wanting a different look to those whos hair is thin or balding due to alopecia. I got some great ideas on wearing the hairpieces I bought while it was growing back. I still wear them to change it up. I really hope you are doing well. Having a positive attitude really is important. My best to you!!!

Anyway no problem. But a year ago I finally decided to let my gray hair grow out. It's salt & pepper, I keep trimming the ends, and it's almost complete. Here's what I miss about not coloring--the dye gave my limp hair a nice body and nice shine. I wish they made a product without color but with a semi-permanant body and that shine like the box dye did. I'd use it every 6 weeks. This drab natural hair texture is not very pretty. 😞

Yeah, I am not a fan of any sort of red. I have only ever dyed my own hair with box color once in my life, & it was b/c I was going through a quarter-life crisis. I don’t quite remember what I did, but I know it took two or three boxes of different colors to achieve the final rose gold look I was going for. I did like it, but it’s hard to keep since my roots come out like black coffee dark. I claim temporary insanity at the time of this crime! Never again! I will _only_ get my hair colored professionally, like I had prior to that temporary lapse of judgment, & I always will! I was told by my stylist a long time ago that just lifting the color of my hair will make it look like a tomato, persimmon or apricot (that’s just how Asian hair lifts.) I despise those colors! So normally, I ask her to make me blonde & I want to see *_ZERO_* warmth, no hints of red or orange! It has gotten a lot easier now of course, but even just 15-20 years ago, she couldn’t “guarantee” that she could eliminate all the warmth. It always turned out ok but I definitely maintain it with the shampoo & conditioner that she mixed for me. Bottom line is that they know what they are doing & I trust her completely!

As someone also old enough to have a midlife crisis, I had the same reaction to that statement.

Those box dyes say do the roots first because they expect people to be reapplying the colour

This is why I used to die my hair by henna. Everyone hate it because it's not such commercial, but for me it's perfect way to get natural red color
