I was very lucky to have been married to a very good hairdresser, in the eighties he would bleach my hair gradually over a long afternoon and the the next day apply my chosen colour..sometimes we went for the bright Crazy Colour brands but my favourite were the red and copper tones by Loreal, so vibrant and shiney...he never burnt my scalp or made any hair break off..he passed away last year and I miss him greatly, not just for his hair skills 😊

Big fat thank you, Hair Buddha! I watched all the videos, used the right products and took a lot of notes from you and finally made my daughter blonde (her wish ofc)… she is so happy with her icy blonde hair and had absolutely no pain on her scalp and no hair loss. I heard your voice in my head the whole time and it helped immensely („Sections! You need finer sections!“). So thanks a bunch!

If the hair dresser is good, none of it will ever touch your scalp. I’ve had blonde and highlights my whole life and never gotten anything on my scalp. They wrap them in foil to protect your head. I can’t believe she told you that. Although I also had a hair dresser once that told me things about coloring. My current one told me that my last one had no clue what she was talking about. Sometimes you don’t even know who’s good and who’s not.

My hair is almost black naturally. I'm Japanese & Turkish with very curly hair. At one point I wanted to go blonde. Two different stylist said a platinum blonde would not suit my skin tone. Both suggested a caramel type of blonde. I went with their suggestions. The stylists I went with said we would do the bleaching in two appointments. He did a fantastic job, and maintained the healthy of my hair, and scalp.

When I went platinum from dyed bright red (with natural dark blonde to brown hair), I did it slowly over the course of 3 months. It worked and I lost no hair. A hairdresser even commented on how good the condition of my hair was and I have v fine hair, but a lot of it. If you have to do these things at home, take your time and be prepared to walk around with unwanted results for a bit as to let your hair and scalp rest/recover if it doesn't work in one go.

I can't figure out how she still has hair after all of that. "Bleached until her scalp bled. Lemon juice, rest. Dishsoap + baking soda (pH of 9) followed with lime juice (pH just above 2), and a color correcting kit. Another bleaching 3 weeks later." I wonder if she did any treatments to prevent further damage. She just about made Hair Buddha faint, but at least she had a friend to help her and that her hair didn't give up before her birthday.

50 volume is ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY. I agree with the 20, and IF you INSIST on using higher, mix equal parts of 20 and 30 AT THE MOST. My hair is scarily resilient, so I have fallen asleep with bleach in my hair and just ended up with hair as white as my skin. My scalp was a bit sensitive, but I was incredibly lucky with that. I honestly don't understand why 40 volume is even available for public use. Ridiculous. Also. Just gotta say. WARM blonde looks beautiful in my opinion.
@cetkat
@cetkat 2 жыл бұрын
I do wonder if it's the same price though? I think you can only dilute it with another volume level for bleaching (so, like a 10vol of at least 50/50..) but I think conditioner works for coloring. So a single bottle could last a very long time when used that way.

I recently had a hair fail. BUT we were able to fix it. First time around we missed a few spots and some areas were too orange. Second time we put bleach on the dark spots we missed and then when I was close to being done did the orange parts. Came out pretty even. It was the underside of my hair which we dyed with iroiro plum. It looks pretty good now. Is it perfect? No. But I do like my result.

I have definitely learned to take fine sections from you, Hair Buddha. I trim my husband's hair. He has long, Jim Morrison style hair. Last night, after he had washed it clean, I sat him in a chair, clipped the top section out of the way and trimmed the under layer, section by section. It took quite some time. I then unpinned the top sections and trimmed those too, section by section. Making sure that the sections underneath were longer than the sections on top. He really loves it and is getting compliments on it. Though I must admit, I miss his longer hair! At least it will grow. The sectioning and layering does seem to have helped, though.

I started to mix equal amounts lightest beige blonde (T11 ) with T18 and 10V developer and it gives me lovely natural blonde hair. I love CT14 color tango but sometimes it’s out of stock and it’s not as strong as the T11-18 combo so I alternate between the two and they’re pretty much the same result. Also, I have dark natural hair so it took me many shades and several months to get where I am now and I’m absolutely happy with the outcome!

I had a natural platinum friend and was so jealous as a kid (8yo). I thought I'd do that when I got older. Never did. My hair is fine, plenty of red undertones, I dye it to a deeper brown/ash/mahogany tone now (early grays 😭). If I want blonde, I wear a wig. 🤔

I have tons of grays. It started at 16. Unfortunately, reds go gray faster.. so nearly all my red undertones I used to have are gone now. How do you like the mahogany mixed in with the brown? What do you use for your coloring? I'm thinking about testing out trying to add warmth back into my hair with a toning process. I'm not trying to go the normal route of covering all the gray.. but leave it in. A 6-10vol wouldn't touch it.. but would deposit on my other brown strands and hopefully highlight the differences that are left. I've never tried anything like that before though, so I'm slowly looking for a good, natural color mix.
@W1shonafish

@@cetkat I go all over with color, then touch up when I feel it's gone too far 🤣. It's a 20 vol developer. And what you said about the red graying out makes so much sense. I use a mail-order dye kit you can buy online. The color specialist mix it up to match what I like. It's definitely harsher than what you're considering, but it does it's job well. If I don't love the results, they can mix up a different color, but usually has to be darker for good results (color doesn't lift color). I tried box dye once and never again - I'd rather mix my own or buy from a specialist.
@cetkat
@cetkat 2 жыл бұрын
@@W1shonafish Is the specialist part of the mail-order company? Or do you take the colors to someone to mix? Who do you order from? I don't know too much about dyes, but it seems like the difference between toners, semi, demi, and permanent ones are part the amount of pigment, and then how strong of a developer you use. For gray's, they use something like "NN".. so a super pigmented permanent color. Because regular won't cover right. I might be completely wrong.. but it seems like you could make a toner permanent, and a semi/Demi/and low pigment permanent a toner - by swapping the developer rules?? I've actually thought about mixing two different levels together. One with more red that's one level lighter, then another with less red/different shade that's my natural level. Because I do still have some natural variation.. some strands are lighter than others.. so the lighter strands could take in the stronger red tone.. and it wouldn't turn everything red. The darker one would act on both and adjust things. Maybe?

@@W1shonafish There was a time I did box dye, and I loved it.. it was before the gray and basically one shade lighter than my natural hair color. The formula was perfect for me, so I got really lucky. It saved me a ton of money too when I added honey highlights to it once. Instead of a whole dye job, I had the base color done already.. so the hairdresser only had to do foil highlights. I did tell her about the box dye.. but basically.. she just had to get it one more level lighter and at an easy color for my hair. I think the service was only $40.. though I did tip well. But that was my "perfect color" at that age. I still think it was a much better match for my complexion. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work now, but I got lucky then.

@@cetkat the specialist is part of the mail order company - eSalon. I try not to drop names or anything, but if you're interested that's who I use. I don't know much about it myself, but it's always turned out well for me and I like it. I know there's some other good mail order possibilities but I've been using them for about 3 years now.

My mom has natural platinum hair and people have asked her who done her hair, she replied, her mom made her that way, lol. I have a very dirty blonde to brown hair and my temples are turning white very early. I don't dye my hair anymore. I have lost a lot of hair from medical issues, I do not want to go high pace at losing my hair by mucking it up. I cut my own hair, which I learned from my grandmother, she was a licensed beautician. I cut any family member that wants me to, I enjoy while I can, can stand up.

I totally understand not wanting to pay a stylist to go platinum, but at least recognize that there's a good reason they charge so much and take so long to do it! And there's so much good information out there from actual professionals, it blows my mind that so many of these people completely ignore all that and instead waste time, money, and damage their hair trying weird home remedies from random people🤯

So, funny story about trying to go blonde. This was before KZbin and all the information available now online. We also didn't have a Sally's, just Walmart & there were no box bleaching kits. So, I decided to go blonde with just a box dye. I didn't even know toners existed. It was my virgin hair at least.. and I found a box that actually had med brown in its sample chart. (I at least knew to avoid the ones that only showed blonds). So, I dye it like normal. I noticed the roots changing better than the rest, so I grabbed a plastic bag and a hairdryer. I just kept at it until it was all one color, and I knew it wasn't going to get any lighter. It was actually completely even. It was also yellow with a hint of orange. Nobody said it looked bad, and it was the closest I could get without shelling out $300+ I didn't have - seeing as I was in High School. So -- I kept it. I actually have a photo of it from my chorus pictures. I successfully re-did the roots quite a few times without any demarcation lines. So, that part was a win ..at least. It actually wasn't horrible for an obvious home dye-job. I look back on it now with amusement. Particularly, because I decided I wanted to go blonde because of the anime character of Venus in Sailor Moon. The color in the anime is definitely yellow. So, I suppose it was actually a success?? Lol 😂

I was platinum blonde at age 17-22. It looked amazing, but was difficult to maintain and in the end I believe all the bleach ruined my hair follicles permanently. I already have naturally fine hair, and ever since using that bleach, my hair has gotten more fine and breaks very easily. I suggest if you do go blonde, be aware it could change your hair health forever.

@@Prairiewench maybe not if you do it once, but multiple times over several years... yes it does. Hair Buddha even said it does. Peroxide, chlorine ...any bleach... are toxic chemicals. Thats why/how it changes your hair color, and, also why when you apply it to your skin, or swim in a pool, it burns your skin and eyes. Toxins (even subtle ones) will change your hair and skin on a molecular level with as little one to many uses. If you are not aware of this, you should take a class that specifies in chemical allergens/ reactions on humans.

The first thing I've learned... 1. don't buy box dye 2. Dark hair goes orange before blonde 3. Get hair dying products from a hairdresser or specialised shop (lots in North London uk). I used to use a specific blonde product but the amount you get.... means you're not able to rinse and redo ... cos you've got no product left!! Next time I rebleach I'll be going to the specialist shop and getting a tub of stuff!!

Hello Hair Buddah Thank's a lot for your educational and entertaining videos 🤗 They cheer up my day! I have a question for you and the community, that I couldn't research the answer: do you have to (and if yes how 😅?) trim your new grown hair? I give myself split trims between the hair salon appointment, but I can only cut the split ends where I see them... Maybe this is just the problem of a perfectionist, but I'm curious to know 😂
