I don't know why nobody ever mentions that velcro rollers rip up your hair. People spend big money to use special soft hair towels, but they seem to be oblivious that something that sticks to your hair like that is literally physically going to rip it all along the hair shaft. Stay away from velcro rollers. I know it's a bit of a tangent from the topic of the video. But it always amazes me how nobody seems to think there is anything wrong with velcro rollers.

When I was younger.. back in the late 1900's my mom decided she could give my wavy hair a perm just as well as going to a salon. So, she tried. My hair was almost waist length going into my 8th-grade year. When all was said and done the stylist that my mother took me to after the failure told her I was lucky it did not fall off at the root because my mother did not allow the hair room to expand. So, while some of my hair curled, any end went straight... if you cut it, the new end would straighten. Over the course of my freshman year, we had to cut 10 inches off. My hair was frizzy and dry, and just overall a mess. During my sophomore year, I decided to let my hair air dry for the first time in years. It was at this time I realized my hair was now naturally curly, and I mean 3b toward 3c curls. Genetics tells me it was hereditary.. my mom's best friend tells me she scared it into curling forever.

That is wonderful that keep your clients hair heathy. I can’t tell how many times stylist killed my hair. Then after I complained they killed my hair because there was zero body left and impossible to style their arrogance defending exactly what they did. How can a stylus defend their actions when you have a large portion of it in your hand not attach to your head. The one lesson that I learned is as soon as a red flag goes up that they’re going against what I believe is correct to keep the hair healthy is to stop them immediately even if it’s just one spot and find another hair stylist. Watching all your posted videos of hair fails is a great way to learn more red flags to protect my hair from either breaking or falling out. Thank you again, I was in tears laughing from your narration to the videos of the pending catastrophe. 😂😂😂

For some reason my mom started perming my hair when I was just little. I never asked her to. Then as I got older I wanted curly hair so I asked for perms. The worst perm I ever got was actually at a salon. The hair was barely curled and the stylist refused to try to fix it. She just said it was too long and heavy and was weighing down the curls. She trimmed a little off and it made no difference. Anyway, I probably kept getting perms into my late 20s, and also used blow dryers and curling irons. Then I had my hair cut into a short pixie and wore it like that for 20 years. Now in my late 50s, I've decided to grow my hair out. I gave myself a one inch buzzcut six months ago, so I could start from the same length, totally fresh. I also am using wooden combs and natural bristle brushes, natural bar shampoo, microfiber towels and only patting, not rubbing to dry the excess water out, and absolutely no heat tools. I want to be an old lady with long healthy hair.

I hear you and good luck! My goal is to have a long wavy/curly silver hair. It's there but the silver is only about 45%. Fingers crossed it's past my shoulder blades now.

You can do it. My hair was always naturally blonde, but as it turned white it went platnum all by itself and not grey. People can't believe it's my natural colour. It is very long natural hair. Every couple of years I get a full foot cut off to get any dead split ends off, but each time it keeps getting longer and longer even with that amount cut off. I'm well into my 50's, the only problem with very long hair and menopause is you do get a lot of hair fall, but luckily I always had too much hair. It just stopped me from having it thinned out all the time like I use to. BTW I have boar bristle, but my hair is too thick for it and it would take me a week to get through it all. What I found useful is to ring it out before getting out of the shower and then wrap a towel around the lengths and gently squeeze out the excess moisture. Patting when it gets longer doesn't remove enough water and always use a good leave in conditioner after showering and after getting rid of the excess moisture. I also use my fingers to comb it through when conditioning and not a comb or brush. Less pulling when it's wet is the best thing you can do for it. Good luck with your long hair journey. It sure takes a lot of patience, but it is worth it. My hair has just been cut and it's just above my bottom crack. hehehe at least I'm not sitting on it anymore.

I started perming my hair about 1.5 years ago- the pattern is a close mimic of my natural pattern (on a good day). I am able to go 6-8 months between touch ups. I honestly love it and my hair looks better than when I was working really hard with the curly girl method. But to each their own!

The girl in the video... I'm not a hairdresser, I learned cosmetology. But what kind of rolls or that you need papers you need... Happy Friday Buddha! Oh lord! I remember the home perms! Looking like a poodle, in grade 6, was the end of the world for little me! I had one professional perms and it didn't take!? Not sure why. Never again!!!!👩🦱

Her top at the end diverted attn from her hair. Good choice. ✌️😂 PS she’s young and pretty and hair still looks good but prob easily fixed if needed.

My stress reliever everytime 😍 Thanks Hair Buddha..You made my day again ❤️ This is 10x not to do by non professional than bleaching ur hair 🤦 : quick question tho...is it true that it will lessen the damage if you will wet your hair before bleaching?

The 80s were the time for perms. I used to have them, but always at a salon. Turned out rather nice. Never, ever will I do it again.

I love promoting healthy hair! Yeah, I use colour but only ammonia free. I am letting it grow out because I’m 43 and haven’t seen my natural hair since I was 13… 30 years! It’s still healthy and shiny. My hair dresser says I’m her poster child. 😀 I can’t believe people are still getting perms. The smell is horrendous and it’s soooo bad, as Hair Buddha expertly explained.

Coloring hair is different than bleaching or perming hair. Coloring is gentler than the other two. You're a little full of yourself. 🤣😂

@@KAdams-dr4pc I’ve had perms as a teenager (Mariah Carey peak popularity), was platinum blonde for 6 years, and other shades of blonde for 10. So, with 30 years of chemical treatment I’m well aware of the differences. If you listen to what he says, he talks about transitioning to healthier treatments. I think that’s great positioning for a stylist.

One thing that isn't mentioned or shown a lot is ethnic hair. It's a whole different ball game. My mom was Japanese and got her beautician's license in Japan. Most Asian hair is black and thick. She could dye her hair a nice brown and perm it without ruining her hair. As for me, I'm 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Puerto Rican. As a baby and child, I had blonde hair and grey eyes. (From my father's side.) As I got older, my hair changed color naturally - from blonde, to light brown to a mix of auburn, black, blonde, brown strands and my eye color is brown, but can change from dark/black brown to a golden color. I also had naturally wavy hair, but my mother cut it all off, gave me a pixie and permed my hair. I stopped fooling with my hair when I became pregnant at 38. I'm back to my natural colors with white strands now and down to the middle of my back. Straight - never did recover my natural curls. At 63, I've come to terms with my hair and love it's uniqueness and health.

When I was about 12 years old my cousin was in Paul Mitchell beauty school. She gave me a haircut which came out really well and then asked me if she could perm my hair because she had to do all these things to graduate from the school. My grandmother used to perm my hair when I was about eight years old. And I always hated it because I always came out looking like a French poodle. I would always brush it out as soon as I would get home. This time my cousin promised me she would give me spiral curls, instead of those tight tiny curls I used to get with my grandmother. She does all the proper steps puts the cotton all that, but I don't think she put the cotton tight enough. I wound up with second-degree burns all over the backs of my ears, the sides and back of my neck. I'm only ever been to a salon to get my hair trimmed and styled. As the future experiences I had at the salon with my grandmother and my cousin were horrible. In all fairness to my cousin I knew she was in school, I knew she was learning. She had been going to the school for a while. I just figured if they were letting her work on people it wouldn't have come out so bad. My hair did look nice, but I was in quite a bit of pain. My hair came out as she promised though

I really appreciate your philosophy of natural hair styling, but i have to admit I can't imagine my head without a perm. My hair is like chives, very straight and only responding to the law of gravity, just falling down with no volume. At least I don't bleach...

Perms take a lot of skill. I would never attempt to do that on my own. My mom used to be a hairdresser and she used to give me perms all the time when I was a kid. You should see my school pictures 🤣🤣 big styled bangs perm with the half up scunchie on top. My best friend told me that my hair was far to advanced for my age🤣🤣 literally kindergarten my mom did slay perms tho! Edited for spelling🤫

My mother insisted on home perming my hair when I was 11...because the salon explained that before puberty, your hair can lack the ability to hold the perm. I didn't want a perm, but it happened anyway. So traumatizing.
