The Route 66 Wet Shave: HairCut Harry experiences a shave from the yesteryears in Seligman, Arizona by the guardian of U.S. Route 66, Angel Delgadillo.
Filmed at Angel and Vilma’s Route 66 Gift Shop and Barbershop located on historic Route 66 in Seligman, Arizona. Angel is a founder of the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona, established in 1987 to campaign for "Historic Route 66" signage on the former US highway. Similar initiatives have since been established in every U.S. Route 66 state.

Three years after our first Route 66 Wet Shave experience, HairCut Harry returns to Seligman, AZ, to finally get a haircut and American history lesson from the Guardian of U.S. Route 66, Angel Delgadillo, who explains to us all the problems in this country and how we the people can continue to keep America a great place to be! What the video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZukY6JrgaaIbrc Enjoy :-)

I hadn't seen an update on Angel since last year so I decided to take a trip to Google. Looks like he's still doing really good, and as of late November 2023, actually went to Washington DC (first time ever for him) and got the President's Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation for his work on preserving Rte 66. It's only the fourth time EVER that award had been given.

I've had a full beard for over 15 years but I would sit down and let this guy shave it all off, just for the experience points... this kind of service is not going to be available forever. Abbasid those are your beliefs and I respect that. I shave and enjoy shaving everyday. It’s a ritual for me. It removes yesterday and I get a fresh start everyday. Finishing a shave with a good old fashion alcohol based aftershave wakes you up and prepares you for the day. I can’t imagine not shaving daily but it’s all good if someone thinks differently.

I love seeing the old timers still killing it in their craft. Reminds me so much of my master when I was an apprentice barber. Used to always talk about things that happened to him when he was starting out, he would tell you the same old stories the same old way and exactly the same lessons just to make sure you remember. It almost makes you believe they could not even think about their job and still do it perfectly, even blindfolded. My master has been on the other side for a few years now but I always remember how he used to be, I swear sometimes I can feel him standing next to me watching like a hawk and ready to give you slap behind the ear with a comb. Respect your elders people, they're the ones who got you there.

Wow. Loved how after so many decades, this man does his job with such pride and love and care. Today, we live hustling all the time, looking to make more and more money, rarely sticking to the same job. I've had 12 jobs by now, each subsequently better than the one before. This man lived in a time when America was truly great. And you could choose to do the same thing for decades on end, and keep your family comfortable. Last time someone could pay off college with a part time job, was 1978. Loved this video. Very nice to see this man do what he loves. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Some of the older barbers still charge the 12 dollars for a cut and shave. But it's sad that some people don't understand that inflation affects everyone and now people think 20 or 30 dollars for a cut is too much but when you have a barber that values his work and gives you the value, it's worth well the price.

Big thanks to you for this! I went to Angel Delgadillo's barbershop in November 1992, exactly on the 66th anniversary of the opening ceremony of Route 66, hoping to get this treatment. Unfortunately, he wasn't open for barbering business that day. He was on the premises though, so I got the nickel tour of his shop, which looked exactly as is does in your video. Then we went back into the gift shop area and I paid my dues and Angel made me an official member of the Route 66 Association of Arizona. Bought a souvenir t-shirt as well, and enjoyed talking for a while about Route 66 with this fine gentleman. Then I went across the street to his brother Juan's diner and got the ridiculous gag treatment that Juan was famous for, starting with the door that opened the wrong way (hinges and knob on the same side). Watching your (thankfully unabbreviated) video gave me the sensory experience that I wished I could have gotten that day. Again, many thanks.

My barber is 80. It’s almost a lost art. It’s a privilege to listen and talk with him as well. I hope that others follow in their footsteps. There’s no better shave than with a perfectly sharpened straight razor.
